Fort Pyl
Fort Pyl ( si, පෙයිල් බලකොටුව ''Peyil Balakotuwa'') or Fort Pass Pyl ( ta, பைல் கடவைக் கோட்டை, translit=Pail Kaṭavaik Kōṭṭai; si, පෙයිල් පාස් බලකොටුව ''Peyil Pas Balakotuwa'') was a small fort in the Elephant Pass Fort areas, which is narrow part of the Jaffna peninsula. The fort was located in line with two other forts, Elephant Pass fort and Fort Beschutter, in order to protect Jaffna peninsula from attacks originating from the mainland. The square-shaped fort built as similar to Elephant Pass fort and Fort Beschutter. It was destroyed and no evidence of the fort is visible today. Elephant Pass
Elephant Pass, (, si, අලිමංකඩ Alimankada) Northern Province, Sri Lanka is located in the gateway of Jaffna Peninsula. It lies about 340 km north from capital. It has an important military base and used to be the island's largest salt field. It was regularly the site of battles during the civil war. Strategic importance Elephant Pass controls access to the Jaffna Peninsula, therefore it is referred to as the ''Gateway to Jaffna''. It is very crucial as it is on the isthmus connecting the peninsula to the Sri Lankan mainland, and to territory in the Southern Jaffna peninsula. Granite
Granite () is a coarse-grained (phaneritic) intrusive igneous rock composed mostly of quartz, alkali feldspar, and plagioclase. It forms from magma with a high content of silica and alkali metal oxides that slowly cools and solidifies underground. Fort Beschutter ( si, බෙෂ්ෂටර් බලකොටුව ''Beshshatar Balakotuwa'') or Fort Pass Beschutter ( ta, பெசுச்சூட்டர் கடவைக் கோட்டை, translit=Pecuccūṭṭar Kaṭavaik Kōṭṭai; si, බෙෂ්ෂටර් පාස් බලකොටුව ''Beshshatar Pas Balakotuwa'') was a small fort, which was linearly located between Elephant Pass Fort and Fort Pass Pyl in the narrow part of the Jaffna peninsula. The strategic fort was used to protect Jaffna peninsula from the forces of mainland (Vanniyas and Sinhalese) as well as illegal access, smuggling, etc. Fort Beschutter was built as square-shaped fort like other two in the Elephant Pass area.
