Forbes Railway Station
Forbes railway station is a heritage-listed former railway station on the Stockinbingal–Parkes railway line at Forbes, New South Wales, Forbes, Forbes Shire, New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History Forbes railway station opened on 18 December 1893. The last passenger service ceased on 15 October 1974, and the station formally closed in 1990. The station building has operated as the Forbes Railway Visitor Information Centre since 1990. Description The heritage-listed complex consists of a type 4 brick station building of standard roadside design and a brick and concrete-faced platform, both dating from 1893. The dock platform, station fences and garden and entrance forecourt are also heritage-listed. The Stockinbingal–Parkes railway line (also known as the 'Forbes line') is a railway line in New South Wales, Australia which connects Stockinbingal, New South Wales, Stockinbingal on the Main Southern railway line, New South Wales, Main South line with Parkes, New South Wales, Parkes on the Main Western railway line, New South Wales, Main West line. The line has come to be part of the main route for goods trains travelling between Sydney and the west of NSW and beyond, allowing trains to bypass the steep grades and passenger services on the Blue Mountains (Australia), Blue Mountains section of the Main West line. Western goods trains were rescheduled to operate over this line in lieu of the Blue Mountains from 1993 when the now-defunct ''National Rail'' company commenced interstate freight haulage. Forbes Shire is a local government area in the central west region of New South Wales, Australia. The Shire was formed in 1981 from the amalgamation of the Municipality of Forbes and the Shire of Jemalong resulting from the ''Local Government Areas Amalgamation Act 1980''. Schedule 1. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments.
