The title Footballer of the Year of Israel has been bestowed annually since 1960 by the Israeli newspaper ''Maariv'' at the end of each season. In the years 1963, 1966 and 1991 two players have been honoured. ''Maariv'' () is a Hebrew-language daily newspaper published in Israel. From Sunday to Thursday, it is printed under the ''Ma'ariv Hashavu'a'' () brand, while the weekend edition that is out on Friday is called ''Ma'ariv SofHashavu'a'' (). A daily, abridged version of the newspaper, called ''Ma'ariv Haboker'' (), is distributed for free every morning during the week. Gil Vermouth
Gil Vermouth ( he, גיל "גילי" ורמוט; born August 5, 1985) is an Israeli former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder or winger. Club career Vermouth is Jewish, and was born in Kiryat Yam, Israel. Vermouth started his football career in Haifa and played until the age of 20 with the local Hapoel side. In a 2011 statistics about the highest proportion of dribbles completed per 90 minutes, in the 2010–11 UEFA Champions League season, Vermouth was ranked first with 75% from an average of 24 dribble attempts. Yosef "Yossi" Abukasis ( he, יֹוסֶף "יֹוסִי" אָבּוּקָסִיס; born September 10, 1970) is an Israeli former football midfielder and current coach of Beitar Jerusalem. Career Abukasis played in the youth team of Hapoel Tel Aviv, and in 1987/1988 season arrived to the first team. In that year Hapoel won the championship and Abukasis signed in the team for the next 5 years. In 1994/1995 season Abukasis played in Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv. A season after he played in Tzafririm Holon and in the next season he moved to Beitar Jerusalem FC. Abukasis played in Beitar from 1995/1996 until 2000/2001, and in his time Beitar won two championships and the Toto Cup. Shavit Elimeleh
Shavit Elimelech ( he, שביט אלימלך, born 7 September 1971) is a retired Israeli football goalkeeper. He started playing in the Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth League. His first game took place in 1988–89 in a game between Maccabi Tel Aviv FC and Hapoel Jerusalem. From 1988 to 1992 he played for Maccabi Tel Aviv's first team. In 1992, he transferred to Ironi Rishon LeZion and reached the final of the State Cup with this team in 1995–96. At the end of the 1996 season, Elimelech moved to Hapoel Tel Aviv. Yossi Benayoun
Yossi Shai Benayoun ( he, יוסי שי בניון; born 5 May 1980) is an Israeli former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He spent most of his career in England and captained the Israel national team. Born in Dimona, he is sometimes nicknamed "The Diamond from Dimona" in Israel. Đovani Roso ( it, Giovanni Rosso, he, ג'ובאני רוסו; born 17 November 1972) is a Croatian former association footballer, who holds Israeli permanent residency. Baruch Dego (or Barukh, he, ברוך דגו; born 28 March 1982) is an Ethiopian-born Israeli former association footballer, who played for the Israel national team. Nir Davidovich ( he, ניר דוידוביץ'; also spelled Davidovitch; born 17 December 1976) is an Israeli former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. At club level, Davidovich spent his whole career in Maccabi Haifa. Idan Tal ( he, עידן טל; born 13 September 1975, in Beersheba) is a former Israeli professional footballer. Tal was born in Beersheba, Israel, and is Jewish. Michael Zandberg ( he, מיכאל זנדברג; born April 16, 1980, in Petah Tikva) is a former Israeli football player. He is the current head coach of Hapoel Tel Aviv's youth team.
