Focus Programs In Lincoln, Nebraska
The LPS focus programs are small public magnet high schools, established and run by Lincoln Public Schools to serve the needs of academically gifted students. Lincoln Public Schools
Lincoln Public Schools was founded in 1923, and is the second largest public school district in the U.S. state of Nebraska, located in the heart of the Great Plains. The school district of over 40,000 students is home to more than 60 schools and programs. The current superintendent is Dr. Paul Gausman, who joined LPS on July 1, 2022. He previously was the superintendent for Sioux City Community School District for fourteen years. Arts and Humanities Focus Program, commonly referred to as Arts, is a focus program that specializes in art and the humanities. The school opened in 1999, and is housed in a historic bottling plant along the banks of Antelope Creek in Lincoln, Nebraska, United States. The Science Focus Program (SFP) or Zoo School, or simply Zoo, is a part of Lincoln Public Schools and is one of the district's three focus programs, along with the Arts and Humanities Focus Program and the Career Academy. Block Scheduling
Block scheduling or blocking is a type of academic scheduling used in schools in the American K-12 system, in which each pupil has fewer classes per day. It is more common in middle and high schools than in primary schools. Each class is scheduled for a longer period of time than normal (e.g. 90 minutes instead of 50). In one form of block scheduling, a single class will meet every day for a number of days, after which another class will take its place. In another form, daily classes rotate through a changing daily cycle.
