David Smith (director)
David Smith (28 October 1872 – 25 April 1930) was an English film director and cinematographer of the silent era. He directed more than 70 films between 1915 and 1927. He was born in Faversham, Kent, and died in Santa Barbara, California. He was the older brother of Albert E. Smith, one of the co-founders of the Vitagraph Studios. Emmett King
Emmett Carleton King (May 31, 1865 – April 21, 1953) was an American actor of the stage and screen. Biography King began his acting career on stage. His first Broadway appearance was in 1899, in the farce, ''The Father of His Country'', which he wrote and starred in. He would appear in several more Broadway productions over the next 15 years, including ''Mary Jane's Pa'' in 1908–09, and the 1911 production of Ben-Hur. His screen career was mostly as a character actor, and spanned both the silent and sound film eras. He began his film career with a featured role in the 1917 silent film, ''Mary Jane's Pa'', reprising the role he had played on Broadway almost a decade earlier. Vitagraph Studios, also known as the Vitagraph Company of America, was a United States motion picture studio. It was founded by J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith in 1897 in Brooklyn, New York, as the American Vitagraph Company. By 1907, it was the most prolific American film production company, producing many famous silent films. It was bought by Warner Bros. in 1925. History In 1896, English émigré Blackton was moonlighting as a reporter/artist for the New York ''Evening World'' when he was sent to interview Thomas Edison about his new film projector. The inventor talked the entrepreneurial reporter into buying a set of films and a projector. Eye Filmmuseum is a film archive, museum, and cinema in Amsterdam that preserves and presents both Dutch and foreign films screened in the Netherlands. Location and history Eye Filmmuseum is located in the Overhoeks neighborhood of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Its predecessor was the Dutch Historical Film Archive, founded in 1946 by David van Staveren, Felix Halverstad, and directors of Filmtheater Kriterion Piet Meerburg and Paul Kijzer. Following the accession of the archives of the Filmtheater de Uitkijk, the archive was renamed the Netherlands Filmmuseum under the leadership of its first director, film collector Jan de Vaal. The Filmmuseum was located in Kriterion and Stedelijk Museum until 1975, when de Vaal succeeded in acquiring a discrete space for the Filmmuseum in the Vondelpark Pavilion. William McCall (actor)
William McCall (May 19, 1870 – January 10, 1938), was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 190 films between 1918 and 1938. He was born in Delavan, Illinois, and died in Hollywood, California. McCall acted on stage before he began working in film for Vitagraph. During his early film activity he was credited as Billy McCall, and he performed primarily in comic roles in farces, including ''Huns and Hyphens'' (1918) and ''Frauds and Frenzies'' (1918). Later, as William McCall, he acted in serials and Westerns. He continued in films through the introduction of sound, ending his career in 1937.
