Florida's 9th House District
Florida's 9th House District elects one member of the Florida House of Representatives. The district is represented by Allison Tant. The district is located in the Florida Panhandle, and encompasses part of the Big Bend. The district covers the western half of Leon County. The largest city in the district is Tallahassee, though this district only encompasses the downtown and northwestern portions of the city. As of the 2010 Census, the district's population is 158,781. This district is covers most of downtown Tallahassee and the northern Tallahassee metropolitan area, giving it a large college and urban population. This has trended the district Democratic, with the last Republican to compete in the district losing in 2016 by 12%. This district contains Florida State University, located in Tallahassee. Allison Tant
Allison Tant (born 1961) is an American former lobbyist, Democratic Party of Florida chair, and politician serving as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from the 9th district. She assumed office on November 3, 2020. Early life and education Tant was born in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, Florida graduating in 1979. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Florida State University. Career Tant has worked as a lobbyist for Holland & Knight and Steel Hector & Davis International. From 2014 to 2016, she served as chair of the Florida Democratic Party. In July, 2016, Tant cast Florida's ballots in the 2016 Democratic National Convention for Hillary Clinton. Joe Chapman (August 4, 1938 – December 11, 2016) was an American politician. He served as a Democratic member for the 9th district of the Florida House of Representatives. Florida's 5th Congressional District
Florida's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Florida. It extends along Florida's northern boundary from Jacksonville to Tallahassee. The district includes all of Baker, Gadsden, Hamilton and Madison counties and portions of Columbia, Duval, Jefferson, and Leon counties. It is a minority-majority district. As defined by the state legislature in 2013 (which lasted until 2017), the 5th district ran from Jacksonville to Orlando; it was considered one of the most-gerrymandered congressional districts in the country. Before 2013, similar territory was included the 3rd district. From 2002 to 2013 the district comprised all of Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties and most of Lake, Levy, and Pasco counties and portions of Marion and Polk counties. Florida's 2nd Congressional District
Florida's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Florida. The district consists of the eastern part of the Florida Panhandle along with much of the Big Bend region along the Emerald Coast. It straddles both the Eastern and Central time zones. It is anchored in Tallahassee, the state capital, and includes Panama City. With 49% of its residents living in rural areas, it is the least urbanized district in the state, and voters are generally conservative. The district is represented by Republican Neal Dunn. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda (born July 9, 1960) is an American politician and lawyer from Florida. She is a former member of the Florida House of Representatives, in which she represented the 9th District, which includes most of Leon County, from 2008 to 2016. Alfred James Lawson Jr. (born September 23, 1948) is an American businessman and politician who was the U.S. representative for Florida's 5th congressional district from 2017 to 2023. The district, which was eliminated following redistricting during the 2022 Florida legislative session, stretched across most of the border with Georgia, including most of the majority-black areas between Tallahassee and Jacksonville.
