Florida's 3rd Senate District elects one member of the Florida Senate. The district currently consists of Dixie, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, Wakulla counties in the U.S. state of Florida. Florida Senate
The Florida Senate is the upper house of the Florida Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Florida, the Florida House of Representatives being the lower house. Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution of Florida, adopted in 1968, defines the role of the Legislature and how it is to be constituted. The Senate is composed of 40 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of approximately 540,000 residents. Legislative districts are drawn on the basis of population figures, provided by the federal decennial census. Senators' terms begin immediately upon their election. The Senate Chamber is located in the State Capitol building. Following the November 2022 elections, Republicans hold a supermajority in the chamber with 28 seats; Democrats are in the minority with 12 seats. Pat Thomas (politician)
Pat Thomas (November 21, 1933 – June 21, 2000) was a North Florida politician and was President of the Florida Senate 1993-1994. He was also President Pro Tempore 1992-1993. Political career Thomas was the Chairman of the Democratic Party of Florida from 1966-70. In October 1974, Thomas unseated the sitting representative for District 10 in the Florida House of Representatives, Jack Burke, in the Democratic primary. He won the general election in November 1972. The following spring, he was one of a bipartisan group of representatives who voted not to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, which lost 64-54, making Florida the 13th state to oppose ratification of the amendment. He served in the State House of Representatives from 1972-74. In 1974 he ran for the State Senate. While he won the primary in early September, he did not receive a majority of the votes, forcing a runoff at the beginning of October. Nancy Argenziano
Nancy Argenziano (born January 1, 1955) is a former state legislator in Florida and served as chairman of the Florida Public Service Commission. She was the Reform Party of Florida's candidate for lieutenant governor in 2018. Personal life Argenziano was born in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Florida in 1971. She has one son. Alfred Lawson
Alfred William Lawson (March 24, 1869 – November 29, 1954) was an English born professional baseball player, aviator and utopian philosopher. He was a baseball player, manager, and league promoter from 1887 through 1916 and went on to play a pioneering role in the U.S. aircraft industry. He published two early aviation trade journals. He is frequently cited as the inventor of the airliner and was awarded several of the first air mail contracts, which he ultimately could not fulfill. He founded the Lawson Aircraft Company in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to build military training aircraft and later the Lawson Airplane Company in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to build airliners. The crash of his ambitious Lawson L-4 "Midnight Liner" during its trial flight takeoff on May 8, 1921, ended his best chance for commercial aviation success.
