Florida's 21st Congressional District
Florida's 21st congressional district is a U.S. congressional district in Southeast Florida. It includes Palm Beach, West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach and Delray Beach. From 2003 to 2012, the 21st district was in Miami-Dade County and included many of Miami's western suburbs, such as Hialeah, Olympia Heights and Cutler Bay. In December 2015, Florida underwent redistricting due to a Florida Supreme Court ruling. Much of the 21st district became the 22nd district and was pushed further into Broward County. In the process, it absorbed the part of Broward County that had previously been in the neighboring 22nd district, which had been renumbered the 21st. This came after the state supreme court urged the creation of one district covering most of Palm Beach County and another covering most of Broward County and a part of Palm Beach. Lois Frankel
Lois Jane Frankel (born May 16, 1948) is an American politician and lawyer who has been the United States representative for Florida's 21st congressional district since 2017 and who represented Florida's 22nd congressional district from 2013 to 2017. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Frankel was a member of the Florida House of Representatives for fourteen years, serving as Minority Leader of the Florida State House. She was elected mayor of West Palm Beach, Florida, in 2003, serving two terms in office until leaving office in 2011 due to term limits. Early life and education Frankel was born to a Jewish family on May 16, 1948 in New York City and received a bachelor's degree from Boston University in 1970.
