Florida's 14th House District
Florida's 14th House District elects one member of the Florida House of Representatives. This district is located in Northeast Florida, and encompasses part of the First Coast, as well as part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The district covers northwestern Duval County, including much of Northside neighborhood and parts of Westside and Downtown Jacksonville. The largest city in the district is Jacksonville, though it only contains part of the city. As of the 2010 Census, the district's population is 155,895. This district is majority-minority. The district contains Jacksonville International Airport. There was a vacancy in 1988 as the incumbent, Carl Ogden, resigned. Teacher Stephen R. Wise won a special election to fill the seat. Angie Nixon
Angela Nixon is an American politician and community organizer from Jacksonville, Florida who defeated incumbent Kimberly Daniels, who was seeking re-election to the Florida House of Representatives District 14 (part of Duval County), in the Democratic Party primary election. In the heavily-Democratic 14th district, this nomination is tantamount to election. Nixon was attacked for having an affair with a married man and getting pregnant from him during her candidacy. She is currently Director for the Florida Public Service Union's Higher Education Campaign and was previously the Florida State Field Director for the Service Employees International Union, of which FPSU is an affiliate. In 2022, Nixon was redrawn from House District 14 to House District 13 thanks to once-in-a-decade re-districting. Florida's 5th Congressional District
Florida's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Florida. It extends along Florida's northern boundary from Jacksonville to Tallahassee. The district includes all of Baker, Gadsden, Hamilton and Madison counties and portions of Columbia, Duval, Jefferson, and Leon counties. It is a minority-majority district. As defined by the state legislature in 2013 (which lasted until 2017), the 5th district ran from Jacksonville to Orlando; it was considered one of the most-gerrymandered congressional districts in the country. Before 2013, similar territory was included the 3rd district. From 2002 to 2013 the district comprised all of Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties and most of Lake, Levy, and Pasco counties and portions of Marion and Polk counties. Florida's 4th Congressional District
Florida's 4th congressional district is a congressional district in northeastern Florida, encompassing Nassau and parts of Duval and St. Johns counties. The district is currently represented by Republican Aaron Bean. As part of the 2020 redistricting cycle, the district was redrawn to include Clay County and exclude St. Johns County. Rutherford was redistricted into the 5th district, and Republican state senator Aaron Bean was elected to be the district's representative in the 2022 election. History Before 1993, most of the territory now in the 4th district was the 3rd district, represented by Democrat Charles Edward Bennett. He had held the seat and its predecessors since 1949 and was facing a stiff reelection contest against Republican Tillie K. Fowler in the 1992. Kimberly Daniels (born June 12, 1961) is an American minister, religious author, politician, wife and mother of four from Jacksonville, Florida. She is a member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing House District 14 (part of Duval County). She began her political career as an at-large member of the Jacksonville City Council. Cedar Key, Florida
Cedar Key is a city in Levy County, Florida, United States. The population was 702 at the 2010 census. The Cedar Keys are a cluster of islands near the mainland. Most of the developed area of the city has been on Way Key since the end of the 19th century. The Cedar Keys are named for the eastern red cedar ''Juniperus virginiana'', once abundant in the area. History Early While evidence suggests human occupation as far back as 500 BC, the first maps of the area date to 1542, when it was labeled "Las Islas Sabines" by a Spanish cartographer. An archaeological dig at Shell Mound, north of Cedar Key, found artifacts dating back to 500 BC in the top of the mound. The only ancient burial found in Cedar Key was a 2,000-year-old skeleton found in 1999.
