An ice floe () is a large pack of floating ice often defined as a flat piece at least 20 m across at its widest point, and up to more than 10 km across. Drift ice is a floating field of sea ice composed of several ice floes. They may cause ice jams on freshwater rivers, and in the open ocean may damage the hulls of ships. Floe Peak
Floe Peak is a mountain summit located on the western border of Kootenay National Park, in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia, Canada. The name for this mountain has not been officially adopted yet. Its nearest higher peak is Foster Peak, to the northwest, and both are part of the Vermilion Range. The mountain is part of what is known as the Rockwall in the Vermilion Range, and is named for Floe Lake which is situated below the enormous northern cliffs of the peak. Floe Lake, one of the beauty spots of Kootenay Park, is accessible via the Floe Lake Trail. Geology Floe Peak is composed of limestone, a sedimentary rock laid down during the Precambrian to Jurassic periods and pushed east and over the top of younger rock during the Laramide orogeny. Climate Based on the Köppen climate classification, Floe Peak is located in a subarctic climate with cold, snowy winters, and mild summers. Floé Kühnert (born 6 March 1984) is a former German pole vaulter. She was successful at a junior level, winning a silver medal at the 1999 World Youth Championships, the gold medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships, and silver at the 2003 European Junior Championships. The Southern class was a class of whale-catcher ships requisitioned from a commercial whaling company for service during the Second World War. The whalers were converted for anti-submarine and minesweeping duties and were in use in the British Royal Navy and South African Navy. Six ships were built in Germany for the Southern Whaling Company and after the war, one was retained in the South African Navy, one had been sunk by a mine and four were sold back to commercial whaling companies.
