George Fitzhugh
George Fitzhugh (November 4, 1806 – July 30, 1881) was an American social theorist who published racial and slavery-based sociological theories in the antebellum era. He argued that the negro was "but a grown up child" needing the economic and social protections of slavery. Fitzhugh decried capitalism as practiced by the Northern United States and Great Britain as spawning "a war of the rich with the poor, and the poor with one another", rendering free blacks "far outstripped or outwitted in the chase of free competition." Slavery, he contended, ensured that blacks would be economically secure and morally civilized. Some historians consider Fitzhugh's worldview to be proto-fascist in its rejection of liberal values, defense of slavery, and perspectives toward race. Calvin "Craig" Fitzhugh (born March 22, 1950) is an American politician. He was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing the 82nd District, which encompasses all of Crockett, Haywood and Lauderdale counties. He is a member of the Democratic Party and served as the House Minority Leader until January 2019. Biography Fitzhugh was born in Brownsville, Tennessee, in 1950 and raised in Ripley, Tennessee. Everett "Fitz" Fitzhugh (born 1989) is an American sportscaster who is the radio play-by-play announcer for the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League. Early life Fitzhugh is African American. He was born in Detroit and was adopted by his mother, a single parent. He grew up in northwest Detroit. He attended Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Bowling Green State University. He first developed an interest in hockey when, as a third grader, he watched a Detroit Red Wings–Edmonton Oilers game and noticed that the Oilers had two Black players, Mike Grier and Georges Laraque. Eugene C. Fitzhugh (May 11, 1926 – August 21, 2007) was a Little Rock, Arkansas lawyer and businessman. On June 23, 1994, he pleaded guilty to trying to bribe David Hale. In exchange for his bribery plea, he was sentenced to 28 months, and prosecutors dropped charges accusing him of conspiring to defraud the Small Business Administration. He also received one year of probation, a $3,000.00 fine and lost his law license. The guilty plea was part of Kenneth Starr's probe into what is known as the Whitewater investigation and report. Elisabeth West FitzHugh (July 30, 1926 – January 13, 2017) was a Lebanese American conservation scientist. She was a fellow of the American Institute for Conservation and the International Institute for Conservation. Early life and education Elisabeth West FitzHugh was born on July 30, 1926, in Beirut. She was an undergraduate student in chemistry at Vassar College. After earning her bachelor's degree, she moved to the UCL Institute of Archaeology (then University of London), where she earned a master's degree in the Archaeology of Western Asia.
