Fitzgibbon is a northern suburb of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Fitzgibbon had a population of 5,656 people. Geography The suburb is one of the smallest suburbs in Brisbane. The suburb is roughly triangular in shape, and is bounded by the North Coast railway, Cabbage Tree Creek, and Telegraph Road. It was subdivided for residential use in the 1980s and 1990s. History The suburb was named after Abram Fitzgibbon, who was chief engineer of railways in Queensland in the 1860s. The area was previously the site of a council landfill. The landfill was first opened on 1 December 1981, and was located on Telegraph Road (now the Bill Brown Sports Reserve). On 14 January 1985, the site was closed and moved further south to Roghan Road (now the site of the Hidden World playground). It operated until 30 September 1995. The Fitzgibbon Cup ( ga, Corn Mhic Giobúin) is the trophy for the premier hurling championship among higher education institutions (universities, colleges and institutes of technology) in Ireland. The Fitzgibbon Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council. Comhairle Ard Oideachais also oversees the Ryan Cup (tier 2 hurling championship), the Fergal Maher Cup (tier 3 hurling championship) and the Padraig MacDiarmada (tier 4 hurling championship). The GAA Higher Education Cups are sponsored by Electric Ireland. History The cup is named after Dr. Edwin Fitzgibbon, a Capuchin friar and, from 1911 to 1936, who was Professor of Philosophy at University College Cork. The 2015 independent.ie Fitzgibbon Cup was the 99th staging of the Fitzgibbon Cup since its establishment in 1912. The semi-finals were hosted by Limerick IT on 27 February 2015 with the final played the following day at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick. University of Limerick won the cup, defeating WIT in a replayed final on 11 March. Carlow IT Controversy Carlow IT were disqualified on 16 February 2015 for fielding a part-time student James Gannon. Carlow IT appealed the decision on 18 February 2015, the appeal was upheld and the decision to disqualify Carlow IT was overturned. 2016 Fitzgibbon Cup
The 2016 independent.ie Fitzgibbon Cup was the 100th staging of the Fitzgibbon Cup since its establishment in 1912. The semi-finals and final were hosted by Cork IT on 26 and 27 February 2016 where Mary Immaculate College won their first ever title. Format Group stage Fifteen institutes of higher education compete in three groups of four and one group of three. Each team in a group plays all the other teams in the group once. Two points are awarded for a win and one for a draw. Knockout stage The four group winners play the four group runners-up in the quarter-finals. The semi-finals and final are played over a single weekend, usually the last Friday and Saturday in February. Fitzgibbon Hospital
Fitzgibbon Hospital is a historic hospital building located at Marshall, Saline County, Missouri. The original two-story Classical Revival style section was built in 1923, with a five-story Modern Movement style addition constructed in 1955. The original rectangular brick section features a two-story projecting portico and limestone trim and decorative panels. The 1955 addition consists of irregularly massed blocks at different heights.
