Chavez Ravine
Chavez Ravine is a shallow L-shaped canyon in Los Angeles, California. It sits in a large promontory of hills north of downtown Los Angeles, next to Major League Baseball's Dodger Stadium. Chavez Ravine was named for Julian A. Chavez, Julian Chavez, a Los Angeles councilman in the 19th century who originally purchased the land in the Elysian Park area. Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center
The Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center was built between 1938 and 1941 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the Art Deco style as part of the "New Deal". The Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center was designated a California Historic Landmark (No.972) on Sept. 19, 1989. The site is currently known as the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center and serves as the training center for the Los Angeles Fire Department. The Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center is located just north of Downtown Los Angeles in Chavez Ravine, next to Dodger Stadium at 1700 Stadium Way. Chevra Kaddisha Cemetery (English: ''Holy Society''), later known as Home of Peace Cemetery, was the first Jewish cemetery in California founded on November 12, 1850, by the Sacramento City Hebrew Association, and was once located at 33rd at K Streets (present-day 3230 J Street) in the East Sacramento neighborhood of Sacramento, California. The cemetery closed around 1924, and is no longer standing. It is the location of a strip mall, there is no historical plaque. The site is listed as a California Historical Landmark (number 654-1), by the California Office of Historic Preservation since July 28, 1958. The Home of Peace Cemetery ( ''Beit Kvarot Beit Shalom'') is a Jewish cemetery in Los Angeles, California. Location It is located at 4334 Whittier Boulevard west of Interstate 710 in East Los Angeles, California. It is across from Calvary Catholic Cemetery and next to Beth Israel Cemetery and Mount Zion Cemetery. History In 1853, the first and oldest Jewish cemetery in Los Angeles was established in Chavez Ravine, near the present-day Dodger Stadium. In 1901, Kaspare Cohn donated 30 acres (12.1 ha) of land for the establishment of this cemetery. The bodies interred at Chavez Ravine were moved to East Los Angeles's Home of Peace Memorial Park between 1902 and 1910.
