First Baptist Church Of Gilmanton
The First Baptist Church of Gilmanton, also known as the Lower Gilmanton Church, is a historic church building on Province Road ( New Hampshire Route 107), slightly north of Stage Road, in Gilmanton, New Hampshire. Built in 1842, the church is one of Belknap County's finest Greek Revival churches, and is accompanied by the county's most intact 19th-century horsesheds. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. Description and history The First Baptist Church of Gilmanton is located in a rural setting on the east side of Province Road, several hundred feet north of its junction with Stage Road. The rectangular building presents a two-story main (southwestern) facade, although its main hall occupies the building's full height. Although the main body of the building is clapboarded, the gable end of the main facade is flushboarded. New Hampshire Route 107
New Hampshire Route 107 is a north–south state highway in eastern New Hampshire. It connects Laconia in the Lakes Region with Seabrook on the Atlantic coast. The southern terminus of NH 107 is at U.S. Route 1 in Seabrook near the entrance to Seabrook Station Nuclear Power Plant. The northern terminus is at U.S. Route 3 on the Laconia/ Gilford town line. The highway is signed north-south, but follows a more southeast-to-northwest alignment. Although the route stretches for almost , NH 107 essentially exists as a series of smaller segments connected by short concurrencies with other routes. Gilmanton, New Hampshire
Gilmanton is a town in Belknap County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 3,945 at the 2020 census. Gilmanton includes the villages of Gilmanton Corners and Gilmanton Ironworks. The town became well known in the 1950s after it was rumored that the popular novel ''Peyton Place'', written by resident Grace Metalious, was based on the town. History Gilmanton was incorporated in 1727. First known as "Gilmantown", the town was home to the Gilman family, originally settled at Exeter. Twenty-four members of the Gilman family received land grants in the new town of Gilmanton. (Other families related to the Gilmans also received grants in the new town, including the Dudleys, the Leavitts, the Folsoms and the Coffins.)
