Fireflies (Owl City Song)
"Fireflies" is the debut single from American electronica project Owl City's album '' Ocean Eyes''. Frontman Adam Young wrote how he enjoyed the fireflies in his hometown of Owatonna, Minnesota, and the rest of the track about seeing fireflies while he was awake with insomnia, with Matt Thiessen also producing and providing guest vocals. The song is built around a "bleepy" synthline and includes lyrics about insomnia, fireflies and summer. The song topped the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 for two non-consecutive weeks. Internationally, the song also topped the charts in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Ireland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. "Fireflies" was Owl City's only top forty hit in the United States until three years later when " Good Time", a duet with Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen, charted at No. 8. Owl City
Owl City is an American electronic music project created in 2007 in Owatonna, Minnesota. It is one of several projects by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam Young, who created the project while experimenting with music in his parents' basement. Owl City developed a following on the social networking site MySpace, like many musicians who achieved success in the late 2000s, before signing with Universal Republic Records, now Republic Records, in 2008. The Lowrey organ is an electronic organ named for its developer, Frederick C. Lowrey (1871–1955), a Chicago-based industrialist and entrepreneur. Lowrey's first commercially successful full-sized electronic organ, the Model S Spinet or ''Berkshire'' came to market in 1955, the year of his death. Lowrey had earlier developed an attachment for a piano, adding electronic organ stops on 60 notes while keeping the piano functionality, called the ''Organo'', first marketed in 1949 as a very successful competitor to the Hammond ''Solovox''. Keidran Jones (born 15 April 1987), better known by his stage name Iyaz, is a British Virgin Islands singer and songwriter, formerly signed with the record label Beluga Heights Records. "Replay" is the debut single by British Virgin Islands singer Iyaz. It is the first single released from his debut album of the same name, which was released in 2009. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade organization that represents the music recording industry in the United States. ''Billboard'' publishes annual lists of songs based on chart performance over the course of a year based on Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems and SoundScan information. For 2010, the list for the top 100 ''Billboard'' Hot 100 Year-End songs was published on December 8, calculated with data from December 5, 2009 to November 27, 2010. At the number-one position was Kesha's "Tik Tok", which stayed atop the Hot 100 for nine weeks. This achievement made Kesha the first female artist in the history of the chart to top the Year-End Hot 100 with a debut single. The list is also notable for being one of five Billboard Year-End lists that featured 14 songs that appeared in the previous year (in this case 2009's) repeat onto to this list. The highest being Jay Z's "Empire State of Mind", which made it on to 2009's list at number 62 and repeat higher at number 20 in 2010's. ''Billboard'' magazine each year releases a Top Hot 100 songs of the year, counted from the first week of November to the final week in October. For 2009, the chart was published on December 11. The 2009 list was dominated by The Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga, who shared the top four spots.
