Firebase Eagles Nest
Firebase Berchtesgaden (also known as Firebase Eagle's Nest or Hill 1030) was a U.S. Army firebase located west of Huế overlooking the A Shau Valley in central Vietnam. History Berchtesgaden was constructed in 1968 by the 101st Airborne Division approximately west of Huế and east of Route 547 which ran along the floor of the A Shau Valley. The base was named after the German town of Berchtesgaden, where the Nazi leadership had their alpine retreats and which was captured by the 101st Airborne in May 1945. The firebase was assaulted by the 6th Regiment, People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) on the night of 14 June 1969, the assault was repulsed for the reported loss of 12 U.S. killed and 33 PAVN soldiers killed and three captured. Fire Support Base
A fire support base (FSB, firebase or FB) is a temporary military encampment to provide artillery fire support to infantry operating in areas beyond the normal range of fire support from their own base camps. FSBs follow a number of plans, their shape and construction varying based on the terrain they occupy and the projected garrison. Widely used during the Vietnam War, the concept continues to be used in military operations. Under the original concept of the artillery fire support base, a 6-gun battery set up with one howitzer in the center to fire illumination rounds during night attacks and serve as the base's main registration gun. The other 5 howitzers were arranged around it in a "star" pattern. Ho Chi Minh Road or Ho Chi Minh Highway ( vi, Đường Hồ Chí Minh, links=no) is a highway in Vietnam. It runs from the north to the south of Vietnam, west of National Route 1. The 327th Infantry Regiment (Bastogne Bulldogs) is an infantry regiment of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) of the United States Army. During World War II, the 327th was a glider-borne regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. It fought during World War I as part of the 82nd Division.
