''Fire in the Night'' is a 2013 British documentary film about the Piper Alpha disaster made by Berriff McGinty Films which had been set up by Stephen McGinty, author of the 2008 book ''Fire in the Night'' and Paul Berriff, a film maker and cameraman who had witnessed the events of the disaster. It was directed by Anthony Wonke. Anthony Wonke
Anthony Wonke is a film director. He is an Emmy and triple BAFTA winning director and an Oscar nominated and Emmy winning executive producer. He has also won, amongst other awards, the Prix Italia, Peabody, Grierson and RTS for his films. Wonke is known for his original feature documentaries ''Ronaldo'', ''Being AP'', '' Fire in the Night'' and ''The Battle for Marjah'' as well as his documentary series '' The Tower: A Tale of Two Cities''. Piper Alpha
Piper Alpha was an oil platform located in the North Sea approximately north-east of Aberdeen, Scotland. It was operated by Occidental Petroleum (Caledonia) Limited (OPCAL) and began production in 1976, initially as an oil-only platform but later converted to add gas production. Piper Alpha exploded and sank on 6 July 1988, killing 165 of the men on board, 30 of whose bodies were never recovered, as well as a further two rescue workers after their rescue vessel, which had been trapped in debris and immobilized, was destroyed by the disintegrating rig. Sixty-one workers escaped and survived. The total insured loss was about £1.7 billion (£ billion in ), making it one of the costliest man-made catastrophes ever. The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is a film festival that runs for two weeks in June each year. Established in 1947, it is the world's oldest continually running film festival.
