The Fire and Rescue Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was established in June 1954 as a long service medal awarded to members of fire and rescue services throughout the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. It was first designated The Fire Brigade Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and subsequently renamed in 2022 following an updated royal warrant. The medal is awarded for 20 years of good and efficient service. Appearance The Award is in cupronickel, in the form of a circular Medal, bearing on the obverse the Crown Effigy of the Sovereign and on the reverse the inscription "For Exemplary Fire and Rescue Service" with a design showing two firefighters handling a hose. The Defence Fire Training and Development Centre (DFTDC, formerly FSCTE Manston) was the site of the Ministry of Defence's firefighter training. It occupied part of a former Royal Air Force base near the village of Manston in the southeast corner of England. Scottish Fire Services College
The Scottish Fire Service College, later known as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service College Gullane (SFRS College Gullane), was a training facility located in East Lothian that operated from 1954 to 2015. A former hotel building, it was used for the initial training for new recruits from across Scotland and also for other specialist training. The facility at Gullane closed in 2015, shortly after the eight separate Scottish fire services merged in April 2013 to form the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), and a new national specialist training centre opened in Cambuslang.
