Finnish Hovercraft Tuuli
''Tuuli'' was a hovercraft built for the Finnish Navy. Originally intended to be the lead vessel of a class of four combat hovercraft, she was never officially commissioned and after having been laid up for the most of her career, she was broken up in 2013. Development ''Tuuli'' was built at the Aker Finnyards Rauma shipyard in Rauma, Finland. Named after a decommissioned ''Tuima''-class (modified Soviet OSA-II) missile boat, she was intended to be the lead vessel of a class of four combat hovercraft that would form part of ''Squadron 2000'' ( fi, Laivue 2000), a vessel procurement program of the Finnish Navy. Before naming, the hovercraft were referred to as the T-2000 class. Aker Finnyards
STX Finland Oy, formerly Aker Yards Oy, was a Finnish shipbuilding company operating three shipyards in Finland, in Turku, Helsinki and Rauma, employing some 2,500 people. It was part of STX Europe, a group of international shipbuilding companies owned by the South Korean STX Corporation. Half of Helsinki yard was sold to Russian USC in 2010. In September 2013, STX Finland announced that the Rauma shipyard would be closed in June 2014. Military Hovercraft
A hovercraft, also known as an air-cushion vehicle or ACV, is an amphibious craft capable of travelling over land, water, mud, ice, and other surfaces. The Finnish Border Guard (; ) is the agency responsible for enforcing the security of Finland's borders. The Project 205 Moskit (''mosquito'') more commonly known by their NATO reporting name Osa, are a class of missile boats developed for the Soviet Navy in the late 1950s. Tuima Class Missile Boat
The ''Tuima''-class missile boat was a class of fast attack craft used as missile boats by the Finnish Navy. The vessels were constructed in the Soviet Union and purchased by the Finnish Navy between 1974 and 1975. The vessels were similar to the Soviet Project 205U ''Tsunami''-class missile boats, given the NATO reporting name Osa II. All of the vessels were later modified into fast minelayers at Aker Finnyards when their armament became obsolete. The modification work took place between 1993 and 1994 at the Uusikaupunki yards. Rauma shipyard ( fi, Rauman telakka) is a shipyard in Rauma, Finland. It was previously operated by STX Finland which is owned by the South Korean STX Corporation.
