Finningley Railway Station
Finningley railway station was a railway station built to serve the villages of Finningley and Blaxton, South Yorkshire, England. History The first railway station to be built was some to the west of the level crossing on the main Bawtry to Thorne road ( A614). The second station, still in South Yorkshire, was on the east of the level crossing, some west of the county boundary. It was located on the Doncaster to Lincoln Line approximately from RAF Finningley (now Doncaster Sheffield Airport). Although the station closed to passengers on 11 September 1961 it was opened specially for trains from Doncaster to the Finningley Air Show until 1965 and on one occasion to serve the Royal Train when H.M. The Queen visited the Royal Air Force airfield. Finningley
Finningley is a village and civil parish in the City of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. Historically in Nottinghamshire, it lies on the A614 road between Bawtry and Thorne, about 6 miles south-east of Doncaster, at , and around 23 feet above sea level. Doncaster Sheffield Airport , formerly named and commonly referred to as Robin Hood Airport, is an unscheduled international airport closed to passenger traffic. The airport is located in Finningley near Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. The site lies south-east of the centre of Doncaster and east of Sheffield. It opened to passengers in 2005, operated by Peel Airports, a division of The Peel Group. The closed airport has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction. It had 1.22 million passengers in 2018. Park Drain Railway Station
Park Drain was a railway station in Nottinghamshire, close to the border with Lincolnshire. It was on the line between Gainsborough and Doncaster. It closed in 1955 to passengers, and completely in 1964, although the line on which it was located remains open. History The Great Northern Railway had been attempting to build a connecting line between Gainsborough and Doncaster since 1847, but it was not until they obtained an Act of Parliament on 25 July 1864 that they were at last empowered to do so. Some three years later, the line opened, for freight on 1 July 1867, and for passengers on 15 July. In order to keep it virtually level, with a maximum gradient of 1 in 300, some large earthworks had been constructed. Doncaster Sheffield Airport railway station (also known as Aerotropolis) was a proposed railway station in the Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) terminal area to allow an interchange of services between rail and air. The area used to have a railway station called to the north-east of the airfield, and was used by personnel from the former Royal Air Force base that the airport is sited on (RAF Finningley). However, the proposed station would have been a new-build facility on a new section of railway connecting the airport with the East Coast Main Line (ECML). RAF Finningley
Royal Air Force Finningley or RAF Finningley was a Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force station at Finningley, in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. The station straddled the historic county boundaries of both Nottinghamshire and the West Riding of Yorkshire. RAF Finningley was decommissioned in 1996.
