Women's Oceania Cup
The Women's Oceania Cup is an international field hockey competition organised by Oceania Hockey Federation (OHF). It is held every two years to determine which teams will receive an automatic berth to the FIH World Cup and the Summer Olympics. As of 2019, only Australia and New Zealand have reached the finals. History The Oceania Cup was introduced to international hockey in 1999. The first tournament was used as the Oceania qualifier for the 2000 Summer Olympics. Since its inception, the tournament has been held biennially. Hosting rights for the tournament generally switch between Hockey Australia and the New Zealand Hockey Federation each tournament. Australia are the most successful team, having won the title seven times. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. 2018–19 Women's Hockey Series
The 2018–19 Women's Hockey Series was the inaugural season of the Hockey Series, a field hockey championship for women's national teams. The tournament started in June 2018 and finished in June 2019. Format The Hockey Series was open to national teams that were not playing in the Pro League. The Hockey Series took place in two rounds, the Open and the Finals. The nine highest-ranked teams in the FIH World Rankings (as of 9 June 2017) skipped the Open and advanced directly to the Finals. All other national teams played in the Hockey Series Open, which features six regional events with up to six teams each. Fifteen teams qualified from the Hockey Series Open to the Hockey Series Finals, for a total of 24 teams in the Finals. Hockey at the Pacific Games (known as the South Pacific Games until 2009) was introduced as a tournament for men's teams in 1979. Hockey was not played again until 2003 when a women's tournament was included in the schedule for Suva. At the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby the format was changed from eleven-a-side to five-a-side, and both men's and women's tournaments were hosted.
