Fiji National Rugby League Team
The Fiji national rugby league team, nicknamed the Bati (pronounced ), has been participating in international rugby league football since 1992. The team is controlled by the governing body for rugby league in Fiji, Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL), which is currently a member of the Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation (APRLC). Fiji have thrice reached the semi-finals of the Rugby League World Cup, in 2008, 2013 and 2017, and are currently ranked 6th in the International Rugby League's World Rankings. They are coached by Fijian Wise Kativerata, and their captain is Tui Kamikamica. The team will typically perform the hymn "Noqu Masu" before each match, singing in unison. Fiji National Rugby League
The Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) is the governing body for rugby league in Fiji. They are based in the capital Suva. History The FNRL was founded in 1992e=April 20 and have been full members of the Rugby League International Federation since its formation in 1998. They have also been a full member of the Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation since its formation in 2010. The original formation in 1992 was organised by two local businessmen Culden Kamea and Tony Ahkoy.The original six team competition was funded by the Sharp Corporation which sponsored their entry into a World Sevens Rugby League Cup in Sydney Australia where they won the Bowl. On return to Fiji a six team completion was formed with ex Rugby Union players once again sponsored by the Japanese Sharp Corporation. 2017 Rugby League World Cup
The 2017 Rugby League World Cup was the fifteenth staging of the Rugby League World Cup tournament and took place in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea between 27 October and 2 December 2017. The tournament featured the national teams of 14 Rugby League International Federation member countries who qualified through either standing in the previous tournament or a series of qualification play-off matches. Canberra Raiders
The Canberra Raiders are an Australian professional rugby league football club based in the national capital city of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. They have competed in Australasia's elite rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership since 1982. Over this period the club has won three premierships out of six Grand Finals, the last one played being the 2019 NRL Grand Final, resulting in a 14-8 loss to the Sydney Roosters. Noa Nadruku
Noa Nadruku (born 19 September 1967) is a Fijian former rugby footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. After representing Fiji in rugby union, he switched to play rugby league in Australia for the Canberra Raiders (92 games between 1993 and 1997) and was named as one of the best 25 players for the Raiders' 25-year anniversary. Background Noa Nadruku was born in Namatakula, Fiji. In addition to winning the 1994 Grand Final with the Raiders, in 1993 and 1996 he was the top try-scorer in the League. James Pickering (rugby League)
James Pickering (born 11 December 1966) is a Fijian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s, and coached in the 2000s. He represented Fiji and Auckland. He made his name during three wonderfully successful years at the English club Workington Town, where his performances were so impressive he is now in the club's Hall of Fame. The British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) is an association for social and recreational rugby league. It works jointly with the Rugby Football League through the RFL Community Board. History BARLA was created on 3 March 1973 at the George Hotel in Huddersfield by a group of clubs believing that the Rugby Football League were not doing enough to support the amateur game. Rugby League World Sevens
The Rugby League World Sevens, usually referred to as the World Sevens and sometimes as the World Cup Sevens, was a pre-season rugby league sevens tournament made up over the years primarily of New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL), Australian Rugby League (ARL) and mostly recently National Rugby League (NRL) teams, along with teams representing NSW Country and nations including Tonga, France, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Russia, Fiji, the US and England. When the National Rugby League was formed in Australasia in 1998 the World Sevens competition was dropped, but it returned in 2003 when Parramatta successfully defended their title from the last time in 1997. Joe Levula
Josefa Vuniyayawa Levula (15 June 1930 – 2 July 1989), known as "Jo" or "Joe", was a Fijian track athlete, and rugby union and professional rugby league footballer. He represented the Fijian national rugby union team before turning professional with the Rochdale Hornets and Bradford Northern in England. He primarily played on the wing. Levula earned the nickname "The Flying Fijian", which went on to become the nickname of the Fiji national rugby union team.
