Festival De Las Máscaras (2016)
The 2016 Festival de las Máscaras (Spanish for "Festival of the Masks") was a major ''lucha libre'' event produced and scripted by the Mexican International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) professional wrestling promotion held on June 5, 2016. The show was held in Arena Naucalpan, Naucalpan, State of Mexico, which is IWRG's primary venue. At the 2016 event Atomic Star, Panterita, Mega, Omega, Súper Mega Oficial 911, Oficial AK-47, Oficial Fierro and Veneno all wore their masks again after having lost ''Luchas de Apuestas'', or "bet matches", in the past and thus lost the rights to wear their mask. The main event was a three-stage steel cage match, in the steel first match Trauma I, Mr. Águila and Canis Lupus defeated Danny Casas and in the second steel cage match Máscara Año 2000 Jr., Mr. Elektro and El Hijo de Dos Caras defeated Toscano. International Wrestling Revolution Group
International Wrestling Revolution Group (Grupo Internacional Revolución in Spanish; the Spanish name is used for the promotion while the English initials are used for the title governing body) is a Lucha Libre promotion based in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, Mexico. Founded in 1996 by Adolfo Moreno and since Moreno's death in late 2007 has been controlled by his sons Alfredo and Marco Moreno. IWRG has its own championships but like many Mexican promotions recognize champions from other promotions, occasionally allowing them to defend those titles on IWRG shows. In recent times the company has become a more direct competitor to Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion (AAA), acquiring a national television deal with TV Azteca and using a number of talent that have left CMLL or AAA to bolster their ranks and profile. Rafael Ernesto Medina Baeza (born December 7, 1970), better known under the ring name Veneno ("Venom"), is a Panamanian ''luchador'', or professional wrestler, living in Mexico and currently working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) portraying a '' tecnico'' ("Good guy") wrestling character. Wrestling Promotion
A professional wrestling promotion is a company or business that regularly performs shows involving professional wrestling that has little relationship to the rules of the amateur olympic form. "Promotion" also describes a role which entails management, advertising and logistics of running a wrestling event (''see promoter''). Within the convention of the show, the company is a sports governing body which sanctions wrestling matches and gives authority to the championships and is responsible for maintaining the divisions and their rankings. Since its introduction to Mexico in the early 20th century, it has developed into a unique form of the genre, characterized by colorful masks, rapid sequences of holds and maneuvers, and "high-flying" maneuvers, some of which have been adopted in the United States, Japan, and elsewhere. Wrestling Mask
A wrestling mask is a fabric-based mask that some professional wrestlers wear as part of their in-ring persona or gimmick. Professional wrestlers have been using masks as far back as 1915 and they are still widely used today, especially in Lucha Libre in Mexico. History At the 1865 World's Fair, Theobaud Bauer debuted the mask, wrestling as "The Masked Wrestler" in Paris, France. He continued wrestling using the mask throughout France as part of a circus troupe in the 1860s before moving on to the United States in the early 1870s. In 1915, Mort Henderson started wrestling as the "Masked Marvel" in the New York area making him the first North American wrestler to perform with such a gimmick. Toscano (wrestler)
Oziel Toscano Jasso (born December 20, 1973) is a Mexican professional wrestler, or ''Luchador'' as they are known in Spanish. He has achieved most success under the ring names Tarzan Boy and Toscano. After making his professional wrestling debut in 1993 he has worked for a number of notable professional wrestling promotions in and outside of Mexico such as Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, AAA, the World Wrestling Federation, International Wrestling Revolution Group, and Promo Azteca. Canis Lupus (wrestler)
Héctor Juan López Vieyra (born November 25, 1984) is a Mexican ''luchador'' (or professional wrestler) who is best known for his time with International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) under the ring name Canis Lupus. He has previously worked under the ring name Comando Negro from 2009 to 2012. Near the end of 2012, López took over the Canis Lupus character when the first wrestler to use the name was replaced by IWRG. "Canis Lupus" is Latin for wolf, something that was reflected in the mask, that he wore prior to September 2016, which is adorned with stylized wolf features such as ears.
