Festival Kanzunetta Indipendenza
Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza ("Independence Song Contest") is Maltese song competition held on a day near September 21 (Malta's independence day). All songs are performed in the Maltese language and is one of the most anticipated events on the Maltese musical calendar. The event first took place back in 1983 in a span of four years until 1987 before returning just 10 years later in 1997 going on to take place each and every year since then. Several local stars like to submit their entries into such a prestigious musical event due to the fact that the songs are written in Maltese. In recent years there were a number of winners who went on to be successful both locally and abroad. Below you could find the list of the past winners. Independence Day (Malta)
Independence Day ( mt, Jum l-Indipendenza) is one of the five national holidays in Malta. It celebrates the day the country gained independence from the United Kingdom on 21 September 1964. Throughout its existence, Malta had a long and complex history which resulted in the island being ruled by a plethora of foreign rulers. Such rulers include the likes of the “Phoenicians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Normans, Sicilians, Swabians, Aragonese, Hospitallers, French, and British”. Miriam Christine
Miriam Christine Borg is a Maltese pop and rhythm and blues singer best known for representing Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996. Miriam Christine was born in Santo Antônio do Descoberto, Goiás, Brazil but raised on the Mediterranean island of Gozo. She took part in various singing festivals before winning the ''Song for Europe Festival'' and representing Malta in the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest with the song '' In a Woman’s Heart''. On the night of the contest, held in Oslo, she was backed by 3 vocalists-one of whom was Georgina Abela, the wife of the composer and a former contestant. Claudette Buttigieg (née Pace, 8 February 1968) is a Maltese member of parliament, Deputy Speaker, and former TV presenter and singer. Personal life and Eurovision Song Contest Born in Naxxar, she won the Malta Song For Europe festival in January 2000, with the song ''Desire'' The song is her debut and only single. She toured Germany, Australia and Sweden, the host nation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 before the main event where her entry ''Desire'' finished in eighth place. Ira Losco
Ira Losco M.Q.R. (born 31 July 1981) is a Maltese pop singer. Her career breakthrough came in 2002, when she represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 with the song "7th Wonder". She placed second in the competition, Malta's best ever result. Fourteen years later, she returned and represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song " Walk on Water", placing twelfth. Losco has released six studio albums so far in her career and is one of the most successful Maltese musicians of all time. Eleanor Cassar is a Maltese singer that won the Golden Stag Festival 2004. Born on September 29, 1982, Eleanor Cassar has been singing since she was 11 years old. She was first noticed by her teacher in Secondary school that encouraged her at participate at musical and theatrical events. The same teacher encouraged her to take singing seriously. Later Eleanor got a certificate of merit from the University of London. In 2002, she won the first prize at ''The People's Song Festival''. Claudia Faniello (born 25 February 1988) is a Maltese singer. She represented Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Breathlessly" She came 3rd with the song Gmielek in the maltese festival MuzikaMuzika 2022 Biography Early career Claudia was born and raised in Qawra, Malta, along with her siblings Fabrizio and Miriana. Amber Bondin (born 26 May 1991), also known as simply Amber, is a Maltese singer. The dynamic vocal tone of Maltese born performer Amber became widely recognized following her representation of Malta in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest. Fabrizio Faniello (born 27 April 1981) is a Maltese pop singer. He represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2001 and 2006. Family Fabrizio Faniello is the eldest of three children born to Vincenzo and Anna Faniello. He has two younger sisters, Claudia and Miriana. Claudia is also a singer and has performed in various Maltese festivals already, including the Malta Song For Europe 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2017, representing the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev, Ukraine. Glen Vella (born 14 May 1983) is a Maltese singer. He started his singing career at the age of 13. He studied both practical and theory in voice and piano. He is certificated in voice coaching from the Victoria Music and Arts College London. Glen is a residential singer on various TV-shows on the island including 'Kalamita', 'Showtime', 'Sa 6' and 'Sibtijiet Flimkien'. Destiny Chukunyere Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika, M.Q.R. (born 29 August 2002) is a Maltese singer. She won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015, where she represented Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015, Malta with the song "Not My Soul".
