Fernando Sánchez Cipitria (born 12 September 1971), known simply as Fernando, is a Spanish former professional footballer who played mostly as a left midfielder, currently manager of Chinese Champions League club Xinjiang Silk Road Eagle. He appeared in 201 La Liga matches over seven seasons (27 goals), for four clubs. Club career Fernando was born in Madrid. An unsuccessful youth graduate from Real Madrid, he made his La Liga debut with Real Valladolid in the 1995–96 season, with the side being coached by a young Rafael Benítez and also featuring former Real Madrid Castilla teammates José Luis Santamaría and Alberto Marcos. The 1997–98 UEFA Cup was won by Internazionale in an all-Italian final against Lazio. It was their third title in eight years in the competition. Castile And León
Castile and León ( es, Castilla y León ; ast-leo, Castiella y Llión ; gl, Castela e León ) is an autonomous community in northwestern Spain. It was created in 1983, eight years after the end of the Francoist regime, by the merging of the provinces of the historic region of León: León, Zamora and Salamanca with those of Castilla La Vieja (Old Castile): Ávila, Burgos, Palencia, Segovia, Soria and Valladolid. Alberto Marcos
Alberto Marcos Rey (born 15 February 1974) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as a left back. After not being able to establish himself at Real Madrid, he went to play for 15 professional seasons with Valladolid, experiencing two relegations and one promotion and appearing in nearly 500 competitive matches. Club career Marcos was born in Camarma de Esteruelas, Community of Madrid. After emerging through the ranks of Real Madrid he played three La Liga matches for the 1995 national champions, his debut coming on 17 April 1994 in a 1–0 away win over Sevilla FC. José Luis Santamaría
José Luis Santamaría Buitrago (born 14 January 1973) is a Spanish retired footballer who played mainly as a central defender. Club career After unsuccessfully rising through the ranks of Real Madrid, Madrid-born Santamaría joined Real Valladolid for the 1995–96 campaign, appearing in 41 La Liga matches in his second season and subsequently becoming an essential defensive player. For three years, he often partnered another Real Madrid youth product in the back-four, José García Calvo. From 2000 to 2004, however, a bad run with injuries and subsequent loss of form limited Santamaría to just 18 games (none in his last year), and he retired in June 2004 with 185 competitive appearances for the Castile and León club. Rafael Benítez
Rafael Benítez Maudes (born 16 April 1960) is a Spanish professional football manager and former player who most recently managed club Everton. Benítez joined Real Madrid's coaching staff at the age of 26, going on to work as the under-19 and reserve team coach, and assistant manager for the senior team. He moved away from Real Madrid in 1995, but management spells at Real Valladolid and Osasuna were short-lived and unsuccessful. He guided Segunda División club Extremadura back to La Liga in his first season in the 1997–98 season, but the team was relegated the following season.
