Fernanda Alves (Miss International)
Fernanda Alves Schmelz (born 1976) is a Portuguese-South African model and former beauty queen who was crowned Miss República Portuguesa International 1996 and went on to win the Miss International 1996 crown in Kanazawa, Japan. She was the first woman from Portugal to win the title of Miss International. Early life Alves was born in Zimbabwe in 1976 to a Portuguese father and a South African mother. Pageantry Miss República Portuguesa Alves first joined the Miss República Portuguesa pageant in May 1996 where she emerged as the 2nd runner-up and gained the right to represent Portugal in the Miss International pageant later that year. Miss República Portuguesa is a national Beauty pageant in Portugal. The main winner of the contest is sent to Miss World. History Miss República Portuguesa was made in 2011 by Isidro de Brito as Miss Mundo Portuguesa. Miss International (''Miss International Beauty'' or ''The International Beauty Pageant'') is a Japan-based international beauty pageant organized by the International Culture Association. First held in 1960, it is the fourth largest pageant in the world in terms of the number of national winners participating in the international contest. Anne Lena Hansen (born 9 June 1974) is a Norwegian actress, model and beauty queen who won the Miss International 1995 pageant in Tokyo, Japan.
