Sydney Exhibition Centre
The Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre was a convention, exhibition and entertainment complex in Darling Harbour, Sydney. Designed by Philip Cox, the complex opened in 1988 as part of an urban renewal and redevelopment of the Darling Harbour area during the period. The complex was eventually demolished in 2013 to make way for the International Convention Centre. History Built by Leighton Contractors, the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre (SC&EC) opened in 1988, with a new section of the centre added for the 2000 Summer Olympics. During those games, the venue played host to the boxing, fencing, judo, weightlifting, and wrestling competitions. Margrete Mørch
Margrete Mørch (born 23 June 1977) is a Norwegian fencer. Biography She is the granddaughter of Claus Mørch Sr., daughter of Claus Mørch Jr. and niece of Ole Mørch, who all fenced for Norway at the Olympics. She grew up at Bygdøy in Oslo, and graduated from Fagerborg Upper Secondary School in 1997. She made her national breakthrough at the 1991 Norwegian Championships, where she, aged only 14, made her way to the final. Here she lost out to Nina Steenland. She and her brother Claus Mørch were coached by Mariusz Piasecki. Mørch and Steenland were the Norwegian competitors at the 1994 World Championships, but both made an early exit. She placed fourteenth at the 1996 European Championships, and won the Junior World Cup 1996–97. Margrete Mørch also became national champion in 1994 and 1995. Sherraine Schalm-MacKay
Sherraine Schalm, formerly Sherraine Schalm-MacKay (born June 21, 1975), is a former top-ranked Canadian Olympic épée fencer. She is a World Cup medal winner, elementary school teacher and author. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa. At the 2005 World Fencing Championships she won a bronze medal in the individual épée event, becoming the first Canadian to ever win a World Championships medal in the sport. The next season, in 2005–06, she won the overall World Cup title. Born in Brooks, Alberta, Schalm has earned the best ever results for any Canadian woman fencer at the world championships, the Olympic Games and is a four-time medallist at the Pan American Games.
