Fencing At The 1972 Summer Olympics – Men's Foil
The men's foil was one of eight fencing events on the fencing at the 1972 Summer Olympics programme. It was the sixteenth appearance of the event. The competition was held from 29 to 30 August 1972. 57 fencers from 25 nations competed. Nations had been limited to three fencers each since 1928. The event was won by Witold Woyda of Poland, the nation's second victory in the men's foil in three Games. Jenő Kamuti of Hungary repeated as the silver medalist, the seventh man to win multiple medals in the event. France took bronze for the third consecutive Games, this time with Christian Noël earning the honor. Background This was the 16th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics except 1908 (when there was a foil display only rather than a medal event). Graham Paul
Graham René Paul (born 15 May 1947) is a retired British international fencer. Fencing career He competed at the 1968, 1972, 1976, and 1984 Summer Olympics. He represented England and won a gold medal in the team foil and a bronze medal in the individual foil, at the 1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica. Four years later he repeated the success by winning another gold and bronze at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was a six times British fencing champion, winning four foil titles and two épée titles at the British Fencing Championships, from 1966 to 1973. Andreas Vgenopoulos (fencer)
Andreas Vgenopoulos (10 December 1953 − 5 November 2016) was the chairman of Marfin Investment Group and was a major shareholder of Panathinaikos FC. Vgenopoulos resigned from Panathinaikos in June 2010 citing differences with Giannis Vardinogiannis. His departure disappointed the fans of Panathinaikos. Tănase Mureșanu
Tănase Mureșanu (22 May 1940 – 6 March 2007) is a Romanian foil fencer. Career Mureșanu took up fencing when he was 11 years old under coach Angelo Pellegrini at CS Progresul in Bucharest. He won the junior national championship in 1956 and 1957, then the senior championship in 1957, 1958 and 1963. John Nonna
John Michael Nonna (born July 8, 1948) is an American fencer and attorney. He currently serves as the Westchester County Attorney. Biography Nonna was born on July 8, 1948. He attended Regis High School in Manhattan, graduating in 1966. Nonna received his bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1970. He competed in the individual and team foil events at the 1972 Summer Olympics.
