Femmes algériennes pour un changement vers l'égalité (''Algerian women for a change towards equality'') or FACE is a women's organisation created during the 2019 Algerian "Hirak" protests and credited with the invention of the "feminist square", a part of the Friday Hirak protests held in front of Algiers 1 University. Creation A declaration establishing the ''Femmes algériennes pour un changement vers l'égalité'' was signed on 16 March 2019 by Saadia Gacem and Faïka Medjahed, members of the , , Habiba Djahnine and sixteen other women. The declaration called for full equality between female and male citizens, announced "the creation of a feminist square which will take place every Friday in front of the main entrance of Algiers 1 University (french: la faculté centrale d'Alger) starting from 13:00" and called for equal representation of women in any citizens' projects aimed to resolve the aims of the Hirak protests. Habiba Djahnine is an Algerian film producer of particularly documentary films, curator of international film festivals, writer, essayist and feminist. Life Djahnine was born in 1968 in Tizi Ouzou. In the nineties she was one of the prominent feminists in her country. Amina Izarouken
Aminatu (also Amina; died 1610) was a Hausa Muslim historical figure in the city-state Zazzau (now city of Zaria in Kaduna State), in what is now in the north-west region of Nigeria. She might have ruled in the mid-sixteenth century. A controversial figure whose existence has been questioned by some historians, her real biography has been somewhat obscured by subsequent legends and folk tales. Early life Amina was born in the middle of the sixteenth century CE to King Nikatau, the 22nd ruler of Zazzau, and Queen Bakwa Turunku (r. 1536–). 2019 Algerian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Algeria on 12 December 2019. The election had originally been scheduled for 18 April, but was postponed due to sustained weekly protests against plans by the incumbent president Abdelaziz Bouteflika to run for a fifth term. Bouteflika resigned on 2 April and Abdelkader Bensalah was elected acting president by parliament a week later. On 10 April the election was rescheduled for 4 July. On 2 June the Constitutional Council postponed the elections again, citing a lack of candidates. A new electoral authority, Autorité nationale indépendante des élections (ANIE), was created in mid-September as an alternative to the existing (HIISE) defined by the 2016 constitution. Abdelmadjid Tebboune ( ar, عبد المجيد تبون, ʿAbd al-Majīd Tabbūn; born 17 November 1945) is an Algerian politician currently serving as the President of Algeria since December 2019 and as Minister of Defence. He took over the power from former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and former Acting Head of State Abdelkader Bensalah. Previously, he was Prime Minister of Algeria from May 2017 to August 2017.
