Lidia Falcón
Lidia Falcón O'Neill (born 13 December 1935) is a Spanish politician and writer. With a degree in law, dramatic art, and journalism, and a PhD in philosophy, she has stood out for her defense of feminism in Spain, especially during the Transition. She was a member of the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSUC) and suffered persecution and torture for her political ideas during the Franco dictatorship. In 1976, she created the Feminist Collective of Barcelona, a feminist magazine ''Vindicación Feminista'', and the publishing house Ediciones de Feminismo. In 1977, she founded the Revolutionary Feminist Organization, from which the Feminist Party of Spain was created. Since 1979, she has directed the magazine ''Poder y libertad''. The 2015 Spanish general election was held on Sunday, 20 December 2015, to elect the 11th Cortes Generales of the Kingdom of Spain. The 1999 European Parliament election in Spain was held on Sunday, 13 June 1999, as part of the EU-wide election to elect the 5th European Parliament. Carmen Sarmiento (born 30 August 1944) is a Spanish journalist and television presenter specializing in international and social issues especially relating to feminism and disadvantaged women. She was a pioneering woman in war journalism. Biography Carmen Sarmiento was born in Madrid on August 30, 1944. She started in Televisión Española in 1968 reporting in the International Information Services. Her early work was in programs such as Weekly Report, First page and Objective from 1979 to 1981. Sarmiento covered coups in Portugal, Argentina, Granada and Ghana. She was also a war correspondent in El Salvador, Nicaragua and Lebanon.
