The Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), a branch of the Arab League, is a membership organization for Arabic-language, national news agencies, currently of 18 or 19 members and established in 1975 in Beirut, Lebanon. Mission FANA's mission is to promote cooperation among its members and around the world. FANA reflects development of similar regional groups including the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN), the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), the and the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA). The Saba News Agency (SABA), also known as the Yemen News Agency, is the official state news agency of Yemen. History and profile SABA was founded on 16 November 1970 as the official news agency of North Yemen, and is headquartered in the capital Sana'a. On 22 May 1990, the agency was merged with the Aden News Agency (ANA) of South Yemen to create the Yemen News Agency Saba. The agency provides news on the Middle East and region. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) ( ar, الوكالة العربية السورية للأنباء (سانا), ) is a Syrian state-controlled news agency, linked to the country's ministry of information. It was established in June 1965. Website SANA launched its website in 1997. Up until November 2012, SANA's website was hosted in Dallas, Texas, by the United States company SoftLayer. Due to sanctions related to the Syrian Civil War, which make this hosting illegal, the SoftLayer company was obliged to terminate its hosting responsibilities with SANA. SANA's English website states that the agency "adopts Syria's national firm stances and its support to the Arab and Islamic causes and principles with the aim of presenting the real civilized image of Syria." The Saudi Press Agency (SPA; ar, وكالة الأنباء السعودية) is the official news agency of Saudi Arabia. History and profile The agency was established in 1970 as the first national news agency in Saudi Arabia. The agency is also the first news agency in the Persian Gulf region. The main goal of its establishment was to serve as a central body to collect and distribute local and international news in Saudi Arabia and abroad. The SPA is under the responsibility of the ministry of Media and therefore, its president directly reports to the minister.
