Antoine Lefèbvre De La Barre
Joseph-Antoine le Fèbvre, sieur de La Barre (or Antoine Lefebvre, Antoine Lefèvre; 1622–1688) was a French lawyer and administrator best known for his disastrous three years term as governor of the colony of New France (Quebec). As a young man he served in the administration in France. He then became governor of Cayenne (French Guiana) in 1664 after it was recovered from the Dutch. After handing Cayenne over to his brother, he served briefly as lieutenant-general of the French West Indies colonies, then for many years was a naval captain. In two engagements he was accused of cowardice, but in others he served with distinction. At the age of 60 he was appointed Governor of New France, holding office from 1682 to 1685. He spent much of his energy in trading ventures, using his position as governor to attack his great rival René-Robert Cavelier de La Salle. Alexandre Frédéric Febvre (183514 December 1916) was a French actor. Biography He was born in Paris, and after the usual apprenticeship in the provinces and in several Parisian theatres in small parts, was called to the Comédie-Française in 1866, where he made his debut as Philip II in ''Don Juan d'Autriche''. He soon became the most popular leading man in Paris, not only in the classical repertoire, but in contemporary novelties. He performed at the Comédie-Française between 1863 and 1894. He retired from the Paris stage in 1893, in 1894 he toured the principal cities of Europe, and, in 1895, of America. Yves Le Febvre
Yves Le Febvre, (December 24, 1874 - January 21, 1959), was a leftist and anticlerical Breton writer and politician. Life and work Born in a middle-class family in Morlaix, Finistère, he studied law in Rennes then in Paris, becoming a Doctor of Law in 1901. A supporter of Alfred Dreyfus, he resigned from the bar of Paris, and registered with the bar of Morlaix, but practiced only rarely. He later became Justice of the Peace in Plouescat, Finistère. He belonged to the urban middle-class and French-speaking, anticlerical and republican faction, which was organized from 1899 in the ''Association des Bleus de Bretagne'' ( Association of Breton Blues). In March 1900, he created with Charles Brunellière the Socialist Federation of Brittany, at a congress in Nantes. Lucien Febvre
Lucien Paul Victor Febvre (, ; 22 July 1878 – 11 September 1956) was a French historian best known for the role he played in establishing the Annales School of history. He was the initial editor of the ''Encyclopédie française'' together with Anatole de Monzie. Biography Lucien Febvre was born and brought up in Nancy, in northeastern France. His father was a philologist, who introduced Febvre to the study of ancient texts and languages, which significantly influenced Febvre's way of thinking. At the age of twenty, Febvre went to Paris to enrol in the École Normale Supérieure. Between 1899 and 1902, he concentrated on studying history and geography. After his graduation from college, Febvre taught at a provincial ''lycée'', where he worked on his thesis on Philip II of Spain and the Franche-Comté. Nicasius Le Febure
Nicasius le Febure, a.k.a. Nicolas le Febure or Nicasius le Fevre or Nicolas le Fèvre (1615 - 1669), was a French chemist and alchemist who was appointed to positions by both French and English royalty. Early life Le Febure was born and educated in Sedan, going to the Academy there. Work Vallot, first physician to Louis XIV, appointed him demonstrator of chemistry at the Jardin du Roi, Paris; Diarist John Evelyn is recorded as having attended a course of his lectures there in February 1647. In 1660 he was appointed Professor of Chemistry to Charles II of England in 1660, Apothecary in Ordinary to the Royal Family in 1660 and Manager of the laboratory at St James's Palace, London. Personal life It is believed he became a naturalised English citizen in 1662. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) on 20 May 1663.
