Fearless People's Alliance
The Fearless People's Alliance (''Alianza Bravo Pueblo'') is a political party in Venezuela. At the 2000 Venezuelan parliamentary election the party won one out of 165 seats in the National Assembly of Venezuela. The party's president Antonio Ledezma was an opponent and outspoken critic of the late former President Hugo Chávez. While his electoral support is not significant, his flamboyant approach has enabled him to maintain a high profile. Ledezma is the former Governor of the Federal District covering Caracas and a former member of Democratic Action, a large social democratic party opposed to Chávez and his successor Maduro. He made allegations of embezzlement against the Chávez administration and has also alleged that the government is engaging in forced indoctrination of children. Antonio Ledezma
Antonio José Ledezma Díaz (born 1 May 1955) is a Venezuelan lawyer, politician and former political prisoner. After unsuccessfully challenging for the leadership of Democratic Action in 1999, he founded a new party, the Fearless People's Alliance. Political history After involvement in politics in his home state of Guárico in the 1970s for Democratic Action, he served two terms in the Venezuelan Chamber of Deputies (from 1984), and was elected to the Venezuelan Senate in 1994. "" (; "Glory to the Brave People") is the national anthem of Venezuela. Its lyrics were written by physician and journalist Vicente Salias in 1810, set to music later composed by musician Juan José Landaeta. Owing to musical similarities with the French national anthem, beginning in 1840 "" was known as "" ("The Venezuelan Marseillaise"). It was declared Venezuela's national anthem by decree of President Antonio Guzmán Blanco on May 25, 1881. Recent investigations have suggested that the real author of the anthem was Andrés Bello, and not Salias, to whom it was originally credited, and the music was composed by another musician called Lino Gallardo. Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (; 28 July 1954 – 5 March 2013) was a Venezuelan politician who was president of Venezuela from 1999 until his death in 2013, except for a brief period in 2002. National Assembly Of Venezuela
The National Assembly ( es, Asamblea Nacional) is the legislature for Venezuela that was first elected in 2000. It is a unicameral body made up of a variable number of members, who were elected by a "universal, direct, personal, and secret" vote partly by direct election in state-based voting districts, and partly on a state-based party-list proportional representation system. The number of seats is constant, each state and the Capital district elected three representatives plus the result of dividing the state population by 1.1% of the total population of the country. Three seats are reserved for representatives of Venezuela's indigenous peoples and elected separately by all citizens, not just those with indigenous backgrounds. 2000 Venezuelan Parliamentary Election
General elections were held in Venezuela on 30 July 2000, the first under the country's newly adopted 1999 constitution. Incumbent President Hugo Chávez ran for election for a full 6-year term under the new Constitution. He was challenged by another leftist, a former ally of his, Zulia Governor Francisco Arias Cárdenas. Chávez won the election with almost 60% of the popular vote, increasing his vote share over the previous elections, and managing to carry a larger number of states. Arias Cárdenas only managed to narrowly carry his home state of Zulia. Democratic Action (Venezuela)
Democratic Action ( es, Acción Democrática, AD) is a Venezuelan social democratic and centre-left political party established in 1941. The party played an important role in the early years of Venezuelan democracy, leading the government during Venezuela's first democratic period (1945–1948). A decade of dictatorship under Marcos Pérez Jiménez followed, which saw AD excluded from power.
