Fearful Attack Of The Flying Saucers
is a 1956 independent Japanese ''tokusatsu'' science fiction film directed and written by Shinichi Sekizawa, with special effects and cinematography by Sadao Uemura. Produced by Kokumotsu Films and distributed by Shintoho, it is Sekizawa's sole directorial credit. The film stars Tadao Takashima, Junko Ebata, Taiji Tonoyama, Hiroshi Sugi, Shigeru Amachi, and Junji Masuda. In the film, a group of Japanese scientists deal with a sudden alien invasion by inventing a rocket in order to save the planet. ''Fearful Attack of the Flying Saucers'' was released nationwide in Japan by Shintoho on November 7, 1956. Shinichi Sekizawa
was a Japanese screenwriter noted for his immense contributions to several films by Ishirō Honda, including several classic Godzilla films. He also contributed material to the original ''Ultraman (1966 TV series), Ultraman'' series and several Toei Animation, Tōei Dōga films such as ''Gulliver's Travels Beyond the Moon'' and ''Jack and the Witch''. His very first screenplay was for the independently produced film (though distributed by Shintoho Studios) ''Fearful Attack of the Flying Saucers'', which was also his sole directing credit. His scripts for kaiju films have been noted for their inventiveness and for having a more lightweight, "fun" tone than those written by Takeshi Kimura (aka Kaoru Mabuchi), another leading writer of kaiju films, whose scripts had a darker, more serious sensibility. Hiroshi Shimizu (director)
was a Japanese film director, who directed over 160 films during his career. Biography Early years Shimizu was born in Shizuoka Prefecture and attended Hokkaidō University, but left before graduating. He joined the Shochiku film studio in Tokyo in 1921, making his directorial debut in 1924 at the age of just 21. Career Shimizu specialised in melodramas and comedies. In his most distinguished silent films like ''Fue no Shiratama'' (1929) and '' Japanese Girls at the Harbor'' (1933), he explored a Japan poised between native and Western ideas, traditionalism and liberalism, while stylistically relying on modernist and avant-garde techniques.
