Fauquier-Strickland, Ontario
Fauquier-Strickland ( or ) is a township municipality in Cochrane District in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. The three main communities in the township are Fauquier, Strickland, and Gregoires Mill. All are located along Ontario Highway 11 between the community of Departure Lake to the east and the municipality of Moonbeam to the west. The municipality was incorporated on December 24, 1921, as Shackleton and Machin, the names of the two geographic townships that then comprised its territory. 2021 Canadian Census
The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. The overall response rate was 98%, which is slightly lower than the response rate for the 2016 census. It recorded a population of 36,991,981, a 5.2% increase from 2016. Planning Consultation on census program content was from September 11 to December 8, 2017. The census was conducted by Statistics Canada, and was contactless as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. The agency had considered delaying the census until 2022. About 900 supervisors and 31,000 field enumerators were hired to conduct the door-to-door survey of individuals and households who had not completed the census questionnaire by late May or early June. Joseph-Anaclet Habel
Joseph-Alphonse-Anaclet Habel (July 13, 1895 – December 5, 1979), usually known as Joseph-Anaclet Habel, was a Canadian politician. Born in Deschaillons, Quebec, the son of Wenceslas Habel and Henriette Charland, he served in the Canadian Army during World War I. From 1919 to 1926, he ran a general store in Amos. Habel then moved to Fauquier, Ontario, serving as reeve of the township of Shackleton and Machin and living there until 1943, when he moved to Kapuskasing. In 1934, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for the riding of Cochrane North. An Ontario Liberal, he was re-elected in 1937 and 1945. In 1953, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the riding of Cochrane. Groundhog River
The Groundhog River is a river in Cochrane District and Sudbury District in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. Shows the course of the river highlighted on a map. The river is in the James Bay drainage basin and is a left tributary of the Mattagami River. About 23 fish species have been identified in the Groundhog River, including self-sustaining population of lake sturgeon which are provincially rare to uncommon. The Groundhog River is an advanced-level canoe route with several series of rapids and white water, in particular from the north of Groundhog Lake to the town of Fauquier; however, this river trip can be extended all the way to James Bay via the Mattagami and Moose Rivers.
