Fat (novel)
''Fat'' (2006) is a comedy novel by '' Red Dwarf'' co-creator Rob Grant, satirising attitudes towards dieting and obesity. During the course of the book, various other themes are also satirised, including health and safety regulations, manufactured pop (including a parody of Girls Aloud, called Gurlz Banned) and lawyers. The book follows the lives of three somewhat unusual individuals over a period spanning a few days, in which their stories eventually interact to varying extents. Character histories Grenville Roberts: A divorced TV chef who is so fat that he is no longer "off the peg". Tends to slip into a rage should anybody mention his weight. Andrew Wong (politician)
Andrew Wong Wang-fat (; born 11 December 1943) is a Hong-Kong politician who was the last president of the Legislative Council during British rule. He was the only person of Chinese ethnicity to have served in the position during British rule, supported by the pan-democracy camp. Andrew Wong was born in Shanghai, Republic of China. He attended Wah Yan College, an all-male Jesuit secondary school in Hong Kong, after which studied at the University of Hong Kong, Syracuse University in the United States and completed an MPhil at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the United Kingdom. Wong is often referred to by the nickname "Uncle Fat" (). Fante Dialect
Fante (), also known as Fanti, Fantse, or Mfantse, is one of the three principal members of the Akan dialect continuum, along with Asante and Akuapem, the latter two collectively known as Twi, with which it is mutually intelligible. It is principally spoken in the central and southern regions of Ghana as well as in settlements in other regions in western Ghana, Ivory Coast, as well as in Liberia, Gambia and Angola. Fante is the common dialect of the Fante people, whose communities each have their own subdialects, such as Agona, Anomabo, Abura, and Gomoa, all of which are mutually intelligible. Protocadherin FAT1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''FAT1'' gene. Function This gene is an ortholog of the ''Drosophila'' fat gene, which encodes a tumor suppressor essential for controlling cell proliferation during Drosophila development. Fully automatic time (abbreviated FAT) is a form of race timing in which the clock is automatically activated by the starting device, and the finish time is either automatically recorded, or timed by analysis of a photo finish. The system is commonly used in track and field as well as athletic performance testing, horse racing, dog racing, bicycle racing, rowing and auto racing. In these fields a photo finish is used. It is also used in competitive swimming, for which the swimmers themselves record a finish time by touching a touchpad at the end of a race. File Allocation Table (FAT) is a file system developed for personal computers. Originally developed in 1977 for use on floppy disks, it was adapted for use on hard disks and other devices. It is often supported for compatibility reasons by current operating systems for personal computers and many mobile devices and embedded systems, allowing interchange of data between disparate systems. The increase in disk drives capacity required three major variants: FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32. The FAT standard has also been expanded in other ways while generally preserving backward compatibility with existing software. FAT is no longer the default file system for Microsoft Windows computers. FAT file systems are still commonly found on floppy disks, flash and other solid-state memory cards and modules (including USB flash drives), as well as many portable and embedded devices.
