Joseph Farquharson (4 May 1846 – 15 April 1935) was a Scottish painter, chiefly of landscapes in Scotland often including animals. He is most famous for his snowy winter landscapes, often featuring sheep and often depicting dawn or dusk. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and died at Finzean, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Mary U. Farquharson (née Nichols; April 5, 1901 - September 1, 1982) was an American politician who served as a member of the Washington State Senate from 1935 to 1943. She represented Washington's 46th legislative district as a Democrat. Early life and education Farquharson was born Mary U. Nichols in 1901 in Tacoma, Washington. Martha Durward Farquharson (1847 Galway, West Region, Ireland – 12 August 1929, Bendigo, Victoria (Australia)) was an administrator, nurse and private hospital owner. Biography Farquharson was the second of eight children born to John Farquharson and Anne Christopherson. In July 1861, they emigrated to Australia. A year later, her mother and a younger sibling died and her father remarried. Career When she was 25, she went to England and taught at Mildmay Mission in East London which was run by evangelical Anglicans. Marian Sarah Ogilvie Farquharson, FLS, FRMS (née Ridley, 2 July 1846 – 20 April 1912) was a British naturalist and women's rights activist. The first female Fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society (although not permitted to attend meetings), Farquharson is best remembered for her campaign of women rights to full fellowship of learned societies. Anne Mackintosh (1723–1787) was a Scottish Jacobitism, Jacobite leader, who was daughter to the Scottish clan chief, Chief of Clan Farquharson and the wife of Angus Mackintosh, Chief of the Clan Mackintosh. She was one of very few (apparent) female military leaders during the Jacobite rising of 1745 and the first female to hold the rank of colonel in Scotland. James Farquharson
James Farquharson FRS (1781–1843) was a Scottish minister, meteorologist, scientific writer, and Fellow of the Royal Society. Life Farquharson was the son of John Farquharson, excise officer at Coull, Aberdeenshire, and was born in that parish in 1781. After attending the parish school at Coull he went to King's College, Aberdeen, where he graduated M.A. in 1798, and in the same year was appointed schoolmaster of Alford, Aberdeenshire. He then soon began courses as a student of theology, and received license as a preacher. On 17 September 1812 he was ordained as a minister of the Church of Scotland in Alford. Henry Farquharson (1675 – 19 December 1739) was a teacher who pioneered the study of mathematics in Russia. He was recruited by Peter the Great, who sought to introduce Western ideas and technology into Russia. He moved to Moscow where he established a Moscow School of Mathematics and Navigation, school and later established a Sea Cadet Corps (Russia), naval academy in Saint Petersburg. Henry Richard Farquharson (1857 – 19 April 1895) was an English landowner and Conservative politician. Farquharson was born at Brighton and became the owner of a large estate at Eastbury House, Tarrant Gunville (near Blandford Forum in Dorset). He was a keen breeder of Newfoundland dogs and had a pack of one hundred and twenty five. He imported them through the port of Poole, Dorset and had a Crufts winner. Graham Farquharson
Graham Farquharson (1940–2022) was a Canadian mining engineer and executive who was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Order of Canada in 2021. He is known for his work in the development of underground mining methods. Career Farquharson began his career as a mining engineer, gaining experience in underground mines in Canada and South Africa. Francis Farquharson (architect)
Francis Farquharson (1805–1878) was a Scottish architect/builder operational throughout the mid 19th century. Life He was born in Auchterarder on 21 October 1805. He was trained as a builder and began also doing design work, but does not appear to have had any formal training in architecture. He moved to Haddington, East Lothian in 1833 to oversee the design and building of the County Buildings there, and settled there thereafter. In 1863 he became Provost of the town.
