Farewell (Oingo Boingo Album)
''Farewell: Live from the Universal Amphitheatre, Halloween 1995'' is a double live album and home video release by American new wave band Oingo Boingo, documenting their final concerts and ending on Halloween night of 1995. The band played a series of five nights, ending on Halloween night by playing more than 44 songs during a 4-hour set that went past midnight. As with all of their live shows, the setlist included songs from across the band's large discography, many of which were given new arrangements. Several of the tracks on the CD release were culled from recordings from previous nights in the same tour, meaning the performances occasionally differ between formats. "Just Another Day" and "Nothing to Fear (But Fear Itself)" were included as bonus tracks on the double cassette release. Oingo Boingo () was an American new wave band formed by songwriter Danny Elfman in 1979. The band emerged from a surrealist musical theatre troupe, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, that Elfman had led and written material for in the years previous. Their highest charting song, " Weird Science", reached No. 45 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Oingo Boingo were known for their high energy live concerts and experimental music, which can be described as mixing rock, ska, pop, and world music. ''Nothing to Fear'' is the second studio album by American new wave band Oingo Boingo, released in 1982 on A&M Records. Music ''Nothing to Fear'' possesses a more hard-edged sound than the band's previous releases, featuring louder electric guitar and percussion, an increased and more varied use of synthesizers and the introduction of sequencers on some tracks. The songs also feature an unorthodox range of instruments, some of which were designed and built by the band. The original 3:47 mix of the song "Private Life" was replaced on later vinyl pressings and CD issues by the 3:18 single mix. The original mix features more prominent bass guitar and xylophone, with a repeat of some verses and longer intro. Dale Turner (trumpeter)
Dale Turner (born 1943 in Minnesota) is an American trumpet player, best known for being a member of the American new wave band Oingo Boingo. Career Music Turner was a member of Oingo Boingo for the entire length of the band's existence, from 1972 to 1995. Although primarily playing trumpet, he also played trombone, guitar, percussion, and provided backing vocals for the band. Sam "Sluggo" Phipps (born 1953) is an American saxophone player, best known for being a member of the new wave band Oingo Boingo. Early life Sam Phipps was born in Los Angeles, California. He played piano and trombone from an early age, but an interest in surf rock lead him to begin playing saxophone at age 15. Between 1971 and 1972, Phipps attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. Warren Fitzgerald (born September 15, 1968) is an American punk rock guitarist, songwriter, and record label owner. He is best known for being the guitarist of The Vandals and Oingo Boingo. He is also co-founder of Kung Fu Records, along with his Vandals band-mate Joe Escalante. Early life Fitzgerald attended Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California, from 1982 to 1986, with Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), Gabriel Ortiz (Serial Killer), and Amy von Freymann (MTV-Jay). The song was released on a 12" single in conjunction with another song from the album, "Stay," with the cover art touting it as the single's a-side, while the catalog number and some discographies consider it the single's b-side. An edited version of "Dead Man's Party" was featured in a promotional music video and was issued in 1986 as the b-side of the 7" single "Just Another Day," also culled from the ''Dead Man's Party'' album. It was produced by Robert Margouleff and was the band's last album to be released on A&M Records. Composition The track "No Spill Blood" is inspired by the H. G. Wells novel '' The Island of Dr. Moreau'', specifically Erle C. Kenton's 1932 film adaptation of this novel, titled '' Island of Lost Souls''. In this story, the mad scientist Dr. Moreau performed operations on wild beasts in order to make them more human and able to undertake menial tasks. When the beasts acted in an inappropriate manner, Dr. Moreau would crack his whip and challenge the beasts.
