Kenelm Foss
Kenelm Foss (13 December 1885 – 28 November 1963) was a British actor, theatre director, author, screenwriter and film director. Early life and education He was born in Croydon, Surrey and studied art at the Wellesley School of Art and in Paris. He was, however, more interested in theatre and in 1903 made his first appearance on the London stage at the Royal Court Theatre. He then spent four years at the Glasgow Repertory Theatre producing plays and acting before returning to London to manage the Lyric Theatre in the Strand. Career and publications He directed the play ''Magic'' by G.K.Chesterton, which had been written specially for him in 1913, and which title was the caption to the Vanity Fair caricature of him on 17 December 1913. He then produced the first performance of Chekhov’s ''The Cherry Orchard'' in England and in Europe, after which he obliged to leave the theatre for a while when he contracted tuberculosis. Bryan Powley
Bryan Gilbert Powley (16 September 1871 – 18 December 1962) was a British stage and film actor. He began his career in the era of silent film. Life Powley was born on 16 September 1871 in Reading, the son of the Rev. Matthew Powley and Louisa Jane Tinker. His father was at that time Vicar of Whitley, Reading, but had formerly been Chaplain to the British Community in Málaga and a Canon in Gibraltar. On 7 September 1904, Powley married Evelyn Mary Foster at All Saints Church, Hampstead.Marriage Register of All Saints Church, Hampstead, 1904, p.212 Evelyn Mary Foster was the daughter of Joseph Foster, the eminent genealogist. On 19 May 1905, Bryan Powley and Evelyn Foster had a daughter, Esmay Margaret Powley. Powley was the uncle of Bruce Belfrage and Cedric Belfrage. George Clarke (producer)
George Clarke (7 May 1661 – 22 October 1736), of All Souls, Oxford, was an English architect, print collector and Tory politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons between 1702 and 1736. Life The son of Sir William Clarke, he enrolled at Brasenose College, Oxford in 1676. He was elected a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford in 1680. He was returned in a contested by-election on 23 November 1685 as Member of Parliament for Oxford University, but never took his seat as Parliament had been prorogued. He became Judge Advocate to the Army and was Secretary at War in Ireland from 1690 to 1692 and in England from 1693 to 1704 under William III of England and Queen Anne. He served as secretary to Prince George of Denmark, Queen Anne's consort and the Lord High Admiral and Generalissimo of England.
