Fairview, British Columbia
Fairview is a ghost town in British Columbia on the west side of the Okanagan River between Cawston and Oliver. It is the original townsite for what is now the town of Oliver, famous for the Fairview Hotel that burned down in 1902. The area was first discovered in 1887 by a prospector known as "One-Armed Reed". In 1888, two others, Gwatkin and Shehan, were Crown-granted the Stemwinder Claim. Many other interests were staked, and by 1893, Fairview (as the place became known) boasted of being "The largest city North of San Francisco." Buildings, such as saloons, were erected to serve the needs of the rising population. In 1897, the Fairview Hotel (nicknamed the "Big Teepee") was built. It burned down in 1902. By 1906, Fairview's gold began to play out, and most miners turned to other prospects. By 1919, Fairview had become a ghost town. Many historic sites can still be visited at Fairview, such as the Fairview Cemetery just off Fairview Road, the stampmill above Tinhorn Creek Roa ...

Hungerford Massacre
The Hungerford massacre was a spree shooting in Hungerford, England, United Kingdom, on 19 August 1987, when 27-year-old Michael Ryan shot dead sixteen people, including an unarmed police officer and his own mother, before shooting himself. The shootings, committed using a handgun and two semi-automatic rifles, occurred at several locations, including a school he had once attended. Fifteen other people were also shot but survived. No firm motive for the killings has ever been established. A report on the massacre was commissioned by Home Secretary Douglas Hurd. The Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 was passed in the wake of the incident, which bans the ownership of semi-automatic centre-fire rifles and restricts the use of shotguns with a capacity of more than three cartridges. The shootings remain one of the deadliest firearms incidents in British history. Perpetrator Michael Robert Ryan was born on 18 May 1960 at Savernake Hospital in Marlborough, Wiltshire, the only child of A ...

Penn Valley, Pennsylvania
Penn Valley is an unincorporated community located within Lower Merion Township, Pennsylvania, United States. Penn Valley residents share a zip code with Merion, Narberth, or Wynnewood because the town does not have its own post office. However, Penn Valley is a distinct community whose civic association demarcates the town's boundaries with iconic signs featuring William Penn and a farmhouse in blue or red on white, dating from the town's incorporation in 1930. History Lower Merion was settled in 1682 by Welsh Quakers and in 1713 became a township with about fifty residents. In 1930, the areas of the township known as "Fairview," "Crow's Hill," and "Bowler's Woods" were incorporated as "Penn Valley". Initially, Penn Valley was a farming community, known especially for Percival Roberts's 539-acre dairy farm, "Penshurst," and the smaller farms that surrounded it, located on PA Route 23, Conshohocken State Road, Hagy's Ford Road, and Old Gulph Road. It grew more suburban in 1939 ...
