Charles Fairburn
Charles Edward Fairburn (5 September 1887 – 12 October 1945) was an English electrical engineer whose work mainly concerned rail transport. Born in Bradford in 1887, and educated at Brasenose College, Oxford, his career included railway electrification work undertaken in the 1910s at the ''Siemens Brothers Dynamo Works Ltd.'', then similar work at English Electric in the 1920s where he also was involved in electric traction development work. In 1934 he joined the London, Midland and Scottish Railway where he was responsible for the introduction of new classes of diesel-electric shunting locomotives - he became Chief Mechanical Engineer of the company in the 1940s, but died in 1945 aged 58. Harold Fairburn
Harold Fairburn CMG, KPM (1884-1973) was the Inspector-General of the Straits Settlements Police in Singapore, from 1925 to 1935. Career He joined the Straits Settlements Police as a cadet in 1904 and spent a twenty-month training period in China, where cadets learnt Mandarin and gained an understanding of Chinese culture. He went on to become the first police cadet to be made an Inspector-General when he succeeded G.C. Denham in 1925. With the support of Sir Hugh Clifford, the Governor of the Straits Settlements, he initiated an extensive reorganization of the police force. This included the construction of new police stations and officer's barracks, many of which remain as distinctive landmarks in Singapore. Jeffrey Fairburn (born 22 May 1966) is a British businessman, currently chief executive of Berkeley DeVeer, a Yorkshire-based house-builder. Fairburn was previously CEO of Persimmon plc, a British housebuilding company and constituent of the FTSE 100 Index, from April 2013 to November 2018. Paul Fairburn is a British online marketing consultant. He started out working in commercial radio and managed a number of different stations, before moving into digital operations for Chrysalis Radio (later Global Radio). Career Paul Fairburn started as a journalist working for Pennine Radio and during the 1980s was a presenter on Pennine Radio and Radio Aire. In 1990 he moved back to Radio Aire to become Programme Controller, and was responsible for the launch and success of Magic 828. Arthur Rex Dugard Fairburn (2 February 1904 – 25 March 1957), commonly known by his initials A. R. D. Fairburn and otherwise as Rex, was a New Zealand poet who was born and died in Auckland. Fairburn was born in Auckland in 1904. His grandfather, the surveyor, thinker and traveller Edwin Fairburn, was one of the first Pākehā born in New Zealand in 1827. His great-grandfather, William Thomas Fairburn, had come to New Zealand as a missionary for the New Zealand Church Missionary Society in 1819. Fairburn attended Auckland Grammar School, where he first met R. A. K. Mason, and worked at various jobs, including relief work on the roads.
