Fairbanks Family
The Fairbanks ( Fairbank) family is a noted American and Canadian family of English origin. The family descends from colonist Jonathan Fairbanks, who emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1633 with his family, settling at Dedham, Massachusetts three years later. There he built the Fairbanks House, today the oldest surviving verified timber-frame house in the United States. The Fairbanks family later became one of the Second Families of the United States with the election of Charles W. Fairbanks as the twent-sixth vice president of the United States in 1905. The Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska; Fairbanks, Alaska; Fairbanks, Minnesota; Fairbanks, Oregon; and Fairbanks Township, Michigan all take their names from him. Heptonstall
Heptonstall is a small village and civil parish within the Calderdale borough of West Yorkshire, England, historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. The population of Heptonstall, including the hamlets of Colden and Slack Top, is 1,448, increasing to 1,470 at the 2011 Census. The town of Hebden Bridge lies directly to the south-east. Although Heptonstall is part of Hebden Bridge as a post town, it is not within the Hebden Royd town boundaries. The village is on the route of the Calderdale Way, a circular walk around the hills and valleys of Calderdale. History Heptonstall is mentioned in the Domesday book in 1087. Ralph Jacobus Fairbanks
Ralph Jacobus Fairbanks (December 26, 1857 – October 3, 1943) was an American prospector, entrepreneur, and pioneer who established several towns in the Death Valley area of California, including Fairbanks Springs (1904–05), Shoshone (1910), and Baker (1929). Early life Fairbanks was born to Mormon pioneer parents David and Susan Mandeville Fairbanks in Payson, Utah, on December 26, 1857. Career He was a descendant of Jonathan Fairbanks. He followed a job with the railroad at start of the 20th century south to Las Vegas, Nevada, and eventually moved his family to Death Valley. Samuel Prescott Fairbanks
Samuel Prescott Fairbanks, (January 31, 1795 – December 7, 1882) was a lawyer and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Queen's County from 1836 to 1847 in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. He was born in Halifax, the son of Rufus Fairbanks and Ann Prescott, and was educated at King's College in Windsor. Fairbanks was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 1818 and set up practice in Liverpool. In 1820, he married Charlotte Ann Newton. He served as registrar for the probate court from 1842 to 1847. Fairbanks was named Queen's Counsel in 1845. He served as provincial treasurer from 1845 to 1848. He was commissioner of crown lands from 1857 to 1872. Fairbanks died at home in Dartmouth at the age of 87. His brother Charles Rufus Fairbanks, was also a lawyer and served in the provincial assembly. Charles Rufus Fairbanks
Charles Rufus Fairbanks (March 25, 1790 – April 15, 1841) was a lawyer, judge, entrepreneur and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Halifax township in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1826 to 1836. He was born in Halifax, the son of Rufus Fairbanks and Ann Prescott. Fairbanks was educated at King's College in Windsor and the Séminaire de Québec. He went on to study law with Simon Bradstreet Robie and was called to the bar in 1811. In 1815, he married Sarah Elizabeth, the daughter of William Lawson Sr. Fairbanks was secretary-treasurer for the Shubenacadie Canal Company. He served in the province's Executive Council as solicitor general. In 1834, he was named Master of the Rolls and judge in the vice admiralty court. Charlotte Fairbanks
Charlotte Fairbanks (December 11, 1871 – February 15, 1932) was an American medical doctor and chemist. She earned a B.A. from Smith college in 1894, and graduated with a Ph.D. in chemistry from Yale at the age of 25. By this time she had published three papers discussing analytical chemistry. She was the granddaughter of Thaddeus Fairbanks, who was a well-known inventor at the time. Fairbanks earned her M.D. and became a practicing physician in 1902. At the beginning of WWI, Fairbanks joined the American Women's Hospital unit in France and was stationed in Luzancy, France, where she spent a year as the chief surgeon at the hospital. For her efforts, she was awarded the Medal of French Gratitude, and was awarded French citizenship. Franklin Fairbanks (June 18, 1828 – April 24, 1895) was an American businessman, natural scientist, collector, political figure, and one of the founders and first trustees of Rollins College. Biography The son of Erastus Fairbanks and brother of Horace Fairbanks, Franklin Fairbanks was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont on June 18, 1828. At age 18, he entered Fairbanks Scales, the family business which manufactured platform scales. He became president of the company in 1888. Horace Fairbanks
Horace Fairbanks (March 21, 1820 – March 17, 1888) was an American politician and the 36th governor of Vermont from 1876 to 1878. Biography Fairbanks was born in Barnet, Vermont, on March 21, 1820, the third of nine children of Erastus Fairbanks and Lois (Crossman) Fairbanks. He was educated at schools in Peacham and Lyndon, Vermont, and Meriden, New Hampshire, and completed his education at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. Erastus Fairbanks
Erastus Fairbanks (October 28, 1792November 20, 1864) was an American manufacturer, Whig politician, a founder of the Republican Party, and the 21st and 26th governor of Vermont. Biography Fairbanks was born in Brimfield, Massachusetts, to Phebe (Paddock) Fairbanks (1760–1853) and Joseph Fairbanks (1763–1846). Ephraim Paddock, the brother of Phebe Paddock, was his uncle. Squadron Leader David Charles Fairbanks (22 August 1922 – 1975) was an Americans, American fighter pilot and flying ace who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the World War II, Second World War. George Rainsford Fairbanks (1820–1906) was a lawyer, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Florida State Senator, president of Florida Fruit Growers Association and the Florida Fruit Exchange; editor of the '' Florida Mirror''; the author of books on Florida history; and the founder and president of Florida Historical Society.
