The Faculty of Theology is a part of Aligarh Muslim University. The faculty has two departments, Sunni Theology and Shia Theology. History The Faculty of Theology is one of the oldest faculties of Aligarh Muslim University. Abdullah Ansari, son-in-law of Muhammad Qasim Nanotawi, the founder of Darul Uloom Deoband, was appointed first Nazime-e-Deeniyat. Aligarh Muslim University is the only Indian university to have distinct departments for Sunni and Shia theology. These two departments not only provide teaching and research facilities but also manage the religious life of the campus. The two are regarded as a living manifestation of Sir Syed's vision of Muslim unity and brotherhood. Aligarh
Aligarh (; formerly known as Allygarh, and Kol) is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is the administrative headquarters of Aligarh district, and lies northwest of state capital Lucknow and approximately southeast of the capital, New Delhi. Aligarh Muslim University (abbreviated as AMU) is a Public University, public Central University (India), central university in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India, which was originally established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920, following the Aligarh Muslim University Act. It has three off-campus centres in AMU Malappuram Campus (Kerala), AMU Murshidabad centre (West Bengal), and Kishanganj Centre (Bihar). Muhammad Qasim Nanotawi
Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi (1832 – 15 April 1880) () was an Indian Sunni Hanafi Maturidi Islamic Scholar, theologian and a Sufi who was one of the main founders of the Deobandi Movement, starting from the Darul Uloom Deoband. Darul Uloom Deoband
The Darul Uloom Deoband is an Islamic seminary (darul uloom) in India at which the Sunni Deobandi Islamic movement began. It is located in Deoband, a town in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The seminary was established by Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi, Fazlur Rahman Usmani, Sayyid Muhammad Abid and others in 1866. Mahmud Deobandi was the first teacher and Mahmud Hasan Deobandi was the first student. Saeed Ahmad Akbarabadi
Saeed Ahmad Akbarabadi (1908 – 24 May 1985) was an Indian Islamic scholar and an Urdu-language author who co-founded the Nadwatul Musannifeen. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Theology in Aligarh Muslim University. Akbarabadi was an alumnus of Jamia Qasmia Madrasa Shahi, Darul Uloom Deoband, St. Stephen's College, Delhi and the Oriental College, Lahore. He taught at Jamia Islamia Talimuddin, Madrassa-e-Aalia, Fatehpuri, Aligarh Muslim University, University of Calicut and the McGill University. Ali Naqi Naqvi
Grand Ayatollah Syed Ali Naqi Naqvi (born 26 December 1905 – 18 May 1988) (26 Rajab 1323 AH – 1 Shawal 1408 AH), also known as Naqqan Sahib, was a Twelver Shia Marja', Marja, Intellectual, thinker, poet, writer, jurist and Qur'anic interpreter. He is famous for his writings in Urdu, including the most famous Shaheed-e-Insaniyat and Tareekh-e-Islam. He has also written Tarjuma wa Tafseer of Quran e majeed and dozens of books in Arabic. Muhammad Taqi Amini
Muhammad Taqi Amīni ( 5 May 1926 – 21 January 1991) was an Indian Sunni Islamic scholar, jurist, Urdu author and the dean of Theology faculty of Aligarh Muslim University. He is known for his works on Islamic jurisprudence, and his book ''Fiqh Islami ka Tareekhi Pas-e-Manzar'' is a required reading for master's degree in Islamic studies at the Islamic University of Science & Technology. Amīni was an alumnus of the Jami’ul Ulum, Kanpur and the Madrasa Aminia. During his career, he taught at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama and served as the Principal at Darul Uloom Muiniya in Ajmer. Zayn Al-Abidin Sajjad Meerthi
Zayn al-Abidin Sajjad Meerthi (also written as Qazi Zainul Abideen Sajjad Meerthi) (1910–1991) was an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar and historian and head of the Islamic studies department of Jamia Millia Islamia. His book ''Tarikh-e-Millat'' is required reading in the syllabus of Darul Uloom Deoband and in madrasas affiliated with it. Anwar Shah Kashmiri (known with honorifics as ''Sayyid Muḥammad Anwar Shāh ibn Mu‘aẓẓam Shāh al-Kashmīrī''; 16 November 1875 – 28 May 1933) was a Kashmiri Muslim scholar and jurist who served as the first principal of Madrasa Aminia and the fourth principal of the Darul Uloom Deoband. Darul Uloom Waqf, Deoband
Al-Jamia Al-Islamia Darul Uloom Waqf Deoband (known as Darul Uloom Waqf) is an Islamic seminary situated in the Indian town of Deoband. It was established by scholars led by Muhammad Salim Qasmi and Anzar Shah Kashmiri in 1982 as a result of administration disputes in Darul Uloom Deoband during 1980–1982. As of 2021, Muhammad Sufyan Qasmi is its rector. History During 1980 and 1982, Darul Uloom Deoband experienced administrative disputes, which Muhammad Taqi Usmani regarded as the worst of their type.
