Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University also known as the Law School, BHU is a faculty in the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India which offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate courses in legal education. It was founded in 1924. History Started in 1924, Faculty of Law was one of the first faculties in the Banaras Hindu University. Initially classes started in the rooms of the Faculty of Arts, (Arts College), by the part-time teachers; mostly learned Advocates from Allahabad High Court. Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya served as the first dean of the faculty for three years. Publications The Faculty of Law publishes the biannual Journal ''Banaras Law Journal''. Rankings The Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University was ranked fifth in India by ''Outlook India''s "India's Top 30 Law Colleges In 2019" and seventh in India by ''The Week''s "Top Law Colleges 2019". Banaras Hindu University (BHU) IAST: kāśī hindū viśvavidyālaya IPA: /kaːʃiː hɪnd̪uː ʋɪʃwəʋid̪jaːləj/), is a collegiate, central, and research university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, and founded in 1916. The university incorporated the Central Hindu College, founded by Indian Home Rule-leaguer and Theosophist, Annie Besant in 1898. After Besant and her associates were marginalized, the university was established by Madan Mohan Malaviya with the financial support of the maharaja of Dharbhanga Rameshwar Singh, the maharaja of Benares Prabhu Narayan Singh, and the lawyer Sunder Lal. With over 30,000 students, and 18,000 residing on campus, BHU is the largest residential university in Asia. The ''Banaras Law Journal'' is a legal journal published by the Banaras Hindu University Press on behalf of Faculty of Law, Banaras Hindu University. It was established in 1965, when no other Indian university was publishing such a journal. History The journal was established in 1965 by Natwarlal H. Bhagwati, 10th vice-chancellor of Banaras Hindu University and former judge at the Supreme Court of India. Reception Following publication of the first issue, a 1966 review in the ''International and Comparative Law Quarterly'' welcomed its appearance as "a matter of great pleasure" which was "long overdue". Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya
Madan Mohan Malaviya ( (25 December 1861 — 12 November 1946) was an Indian scholar, educational reformer and politician notable for his role in the Indian independence movement. He was president of the Indian National Congress four times and the founder of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha. He was addressed as ''Pandit'', a title of respect, and also as ''Mahamana'' (Great Soul). Malaviya strove to promote modern education among Indians and co-founded the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Varanasi in 1916, which was created under the 1915 BHU Act. It is the largest residential university in Asia and one of the largest in the world, with over 40,000 students across arts, commerce, sciences, engineering, linguistic, ritual, medicine, agriculture, performing arts, law, management, and technology disciplines from all over the world. Allahabad High Court
Allahabad High Court, also known as High Court of Judicature at Allahabad is the high court based in Prayagraj that has jurisdiction over the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was established on 17 March 1866, making it one of the oldest high courts to be established in India. History Prayagraj became the seat of Government of North-Western Provinces and a High Court was established in 1834 but was shifted to Agra within a year. In 1875 it shifted back to Prayagraj.
