Face To Face (GQ Album)
''Face to Face'' is the third and final album by American soul/disco group GQ, released in 1981 on the Arista label. It peaked at #18 on the R&B chart and #140 on the pop listing. Two singles, "Shake" and "Sad Girl", were released; the latter became the group's third to chart on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, peaking at #93. Known as a four-piece band in their heyday, by the release of this album, GQ had been reduced to a trio, with the departure of drummer Paul Service. Service was not officially replaced on this release, and thus, only the remaining three members are featured on the cover. The drum work on the album was performed by session drummers Howard King and Chris Parker. GQ (band)
GQ was an American group, formed in The Bronx, New York, primarily noted for its success in funk, R&B, soul music and disco. The core membership of the group commenced playing professionally, under different group names, as of 1968. History GQ was first formed in 1968 as a quartet called Sabu & the Survivors, with "Sabu" being a moniker of member Keith Crier. The group then evolved in the 1970s as The Rhythm Makers, playing primarily funk music and were Five Percenters. The Rhythm Makers were composed of Emanuel Rahiem LeBlanc (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Keith "Sabu" Crier (bass and vocals), Herb Lane (keyboards and vocals) and Kenny Banks (drums and vocals). The group released one album, ''Soul on Your Side'' in 1976 on the De-Lite Records subsidiary Vigor Records, from which the group had one major international dancefloor hit, "Zone". Harvey Scales
Harvey Scales (September 27, 1940 – February 11, 2019) was an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, and producer. Scales had been active in the music industry since the 1960s, and composed songs for groups such as The Dells, The Dramatics, and The O'Jays. He is particularly notable for his co-authorship of the songs " Love-Itis" and "Disco Lady". Once called Milwaukee's "Godfather of Soul" by a local reporter, Scales credited James Brown and the sound of "funk" for influencing his music career. History Scales was born in Osceola, Arkansas, and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he attended Roosevelt Middle School and North Division High School. He was well known in Milwaukee, before his big break as a national songwriter. He was known as "Twistin' Harvey", in the early 1960s. Ralph Anthony MacDonald (March 15, 1944 – December 18, 2011) was a Trinbagonian-American percussionist, songwriter, musical arranger, record producer, steelpan virtuoso and philanthropist. Chris Parker (musician)
Chris Parker is an American drummer. During his childhood, Parker's father, artist Robert Andrew Parker, attached wooden blocks to the hi-hat and bass drum pedals, so that Parker's feet could reach the pedals to play the drums along with records. His father, who was also a jazz drummer, introduced young Parker to the music of Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Leadbelly, Ray Charles, Woody Herman, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. When he became a teenager he began practicing with friends and finding out the nostalgia of rock and roll by listening to such jazz drummers as Roger Hawkins, D. J. Fontana, and New Orleans icons such as Earl Palmer, Smokey Johnson and James Black. Ray Chew
Ray Chew is an American musician who specializes in keyboards and contemporary and orchestral arranging. He is the music director of ABC's Dancing with the Stars (2014–present). Chew was music director for Fox's American Idol from 2010 to 2013. In 2014, Chew musically directed the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He has also served as music director for the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants since 2010. Chew was a member of the Saturday Night Live Band from 1980 to 1983. Kenny Nolan
Kenny Nolan (born September 30, 1949) is an American singer-songwriter from Los Angeles. He is best remembered for the 1976–77 song " I Like Dreamin'", which he wrote and performed; it reached No. 3 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and No. 4 on the Easy Listening chart. He wrote ''Swing Your Daddy,'' which became a 1975 summer hit for Jim Gilstrap, reaching No.4 in the UK charts and No.10 on the American Billboard Black Music chart of that year.
