''F for Fake'' (, "Truths and lies"; , "Fraud") is a 1973 docudrama film co-written, directed by, and starring Orson Welles who worked on the film alongside François Reichenbach, Oja Kodar, and Gary Graver. Initially released in 1973, it focuses on Elmyr de Hory's recounting of his career as a professional art forger; de Hory's story serves as the backdrop for a meandering investigation of the natures of authorship and authenticity, as well as the basis of the value of art. Paul Stewart (actor)
Paul Stewart (born Paul Sternberg; March 13, 1908 – February 17, 1986) was an American character actor, director and producer who worked in theatre, radio, films and television. He frequently portrayed cynical and sinister characters throughout his career. A friend and associate of Orson Welles for many years, Stewart helped Welles get his first job in radio and was associate producer of the celebrated radio program "The War of the Worlds", in which he also performed. Elmyr de Hory (born Elemér Albert Hoffmann; April 14, 1906 – December 11, 1976) was a Hungarian-born painter and art forger. It is claimed he was responsible for producing over a thousand forgeries that were sold to reputable art galleries all over the world. His activities garnered celebrity from a Clifford Irving book, ''Fake'' (1969), and a documentary essay film by Orson Welles, '' F for Fake'' (1974). Early life De Hory claimed that he was born into an aristocratic family, that his father was an Austro-Hungarian ambassador and that his mother came from a family of bankers.Most of the information regarding de Hory's early life comes from what he told American writer Clifford Irving, who wrote the first biography about him. "The War of the Worlds" was a Halloween episode of the radio drama, radio series ''The Mercury Theatre on the Air'' directed and narrated by Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel ''The War of the Worlds'' (1898) that was performed and broadcast live at 8 pm Eastern Time Zone, ET on October 30, 1938, over the CBS News Radio, CBS Radio Network. The episode is infamous for inciting a panic by convincing some members of the listening audience that a Martian (The War of the Worlds), Martian invasion was taking place, though the scale of panic is disputed, as the program had relatively few listeners.
