FOB Grizzly
FOB Grizzly (formerly FOB Spartan, FOB Red Lion and FOB Barbarian) was a U.S. Army Forward Operating Base located within Camp Ashraf, Iraq. It was near Al Khalis, approximately 20 kilometers (12.4 mi) west of the Iranian border and north of Baghdad. The FOB was named after the callsign for the 49th Military Police Battalion. They were in charge of the FOB from October 2005 until October 2006 and their call sign was "Grizzly" dubbed after the California Grizzly Bear on the State Flag, TASK FORCE 49, 49th Military Police Battalion and Forward Operating Base Commander, LTC Anthony Palumbo and CSM Paul George conducted operations with over 2,000 U.S. and Coalition and 300 Contract employees. Forward Operating Base
A forward operating base (FOB) is any secured forward Operational level of war, operational level military position, commonly a military base, that is used to support strategic goals and tactical objectives. A FOB may or may not contain an airfield, hospital, machine shop, or other logistical facilities. The base may be used for an extended period of time. FOBs are traditionally supported by main operating bases that are required to provide backup support to them. A FOB also improves reaction time to local areas as opposed to having all troops on the main operating base. Description In its most basic form, a FOB consists of a ring of barbed wire around a position with a fortified entry control point, or ECP. 728th Military Police Battalion
The 728th Military Police Battalion performs Military Police operations to allow for United States forces to move freely through an assigned area. The Battalion also provides law and order to all installations within United States Army Garrison Hawaii. 1st Battalion 9th Marines
The 1st Battalion 9th Marines (1/9) was an infantry battalion of the United States Marine Corps. Formed during World War I, it served until the mid-2000s when it was deactivated to make room for one of three light armor reconnaissance battalions. During the Vietnam War, 1/9 sustained the highest casualty rate in Marine Corps history. This earned them the nickname "The Walking Dead". In late 2005, the battalion was reactivated and attached to the 8th Marine Regiment at MCB Camp Lejeune. Although the first full company has deployed, 1/9 was not expected to be ready for deployment as a battalion until May 2008. On 19 April 2007, 1/9 was officially stood up with all of its subordinate units fully manned. Anti-Terrorism Battalion
The United States Marine Corps' Anti-Terrorism Battalion (AT BN) was a specialized infantry battalion. The battalion was disbanded in 2013. The 32nd Cavalry Regiment is a cavalry formation of the United States Army. From 1941 to 2000, it was an armor formation. History The 32nd Armor Regiment was activated 15 April 1941 at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana as the 2nd Armored Regiment and assigned to the 3rd Armored Division. This title designation did not last long as the unit was quickly redesignated less than a month later on 8 May 1941 as the 32nd Armor Regiment. The 32nd Armor along with the 33rd Armor were the only two of the six armor regiments (the others belonging to the 1st and 2nd Armored Divisions) to have ever been deployed in full regimental formation (during World War II.) The 113th Cavalry Regiment is a cavalry regiment of the Iowa National Guard, with history tracing back to the 19th century Indian Wars. It was heavily involved in fighting during World War II against German forces in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany from June 1944 to May 1945.
