Halfpipe
A half-pipe is a structure used in gravity extreme sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding, skiing, freestyle BMX, skating, and scooter riding. Overview The structure resembles a cross-section of a swimming pool, essentially two concave ramps (or quarter-pipes), topped by copings and decks, facing each other across a flat transition, also known as a ''tranny''. Originally half-pipes were half sections of a large diameter pipe. Since the 1980s, half-pipes contain an extended ''flat bottom'' between the quarter-pipes. The original style half-pipes are no longer built. Flat ground provides time to regain balance after landing and more time to prepare for the next trick. Half-pipe applications include leisure recreation, skills development, competitive training, amateur and professional competition, demonstrations, and as an adjunct to other types of skills training. Benoit Valentin
Benoit Valentin (born 8 December 1992 in Écully) is a French freestyle skier, specializing in halfpipe. Valentin competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for France. He placed 3rd in the qualifying round in the halfpipe, advancing to the final. He finished 10th in the final, with a best run of 61.00 points. Peter Crook
Peter Crook (born January 9, 1993 in Tortola, British Virgin Islands) is a British Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islander freestyle skiing, freestyle skier who has competed since 2009 in the halfpipe discipline. Crook has qualified to compete for the British Virgin Islands at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, becoming the second ever Winter Olympian to represent the country. Crook and his family moved to Wisconsin, United States in 2001, where he picked up skiing. In 2008, he moved to Colorado and became a professional freestyle skier. Murray Buchan (born 2 December 1991), nicknamed Muzza, is a freestyle skier who competes in the halfpipe. Buchan's Olympic debut was at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he competed on 18 February 2014 in the halfpipe, finishing in 17th place in the qualification round. Personal life Buchan was born on 2 December 1991 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was a member of the Glenshee Ski Centre mountain rescue team. James Woods (freestyle Skier)
James Woods (born 19 January 1992) is a British freestyle skier. He has won six medals at FIS World Cup and two medals at FIS World Championships Woods learned to ski at the Sheffield Ski Village near his family home. He won five consecutive British national championships in slopestyle between 2007 and 2011 in Laax. He took a bronze medal at the 2011 Winter X Games Europe, and that year he scored a third place at the King of style competition in Stockholm and also placed eighth on his debut at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships. In April 2012 he finished second in the slopestyle event at the World Skiing Invitational & AFP World Championships at Whistler Blackcomb. James Machon (born 23 November 1990) is a freestyle skier who competes in the halfpipe, his first Olympics was the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Biography Machon was born on 23 November 1990, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He was schooled at Bamford Primary School, and went to Leeds Metropolitan University.
