FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 – Women's Super-G
The women's super-G competition at the 2013 World Championships was held on Tuesday, February 5, with 59 athletes from 28 countries entered. The first race of the championships, it was scheduled for an 11:00 (CET) start. Due to marginal weather, the start was delayed in 15-minute increments until 14:30; the race was called completed after just 30 finishers (36 athletes), due to fog. World Cup overall leader Tina Maze won the world title, with Lara Gut and Julia Mancuso on the podium. Lindsey Vonn was involved in a severe crash midway through the course and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. She tore her anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in her right knee and sustained a lateral tibial plateau fracture. Results The race was started at 14:30. Planai
Planai is a ski area in central Austria, the main mountain in the Schladming area in Styria. It is one of four adjoining mountains, which includes Hauser Kaibling, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm, connected under the name Schladminger 4-Berge-Schaukel. It is not regarded as a single mountain and all text from the official website cites the total amount of pistes. Planai was the host venue of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2013, held in early February. Schladming previously hosted alpine skiing's major biennial event in 1982, with the men's events at Planai and the women's at Haus im Ennstal. Sofia Goggia (; born 15 November 1992) is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer who competes in all disciplines and specialises in the speed events of downhill and super-G. She is a two-time Olympic downhill medalist — gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics, the first one for an Italian woman — and three-time World Cup downhill title winner (2018, 2021, 2022). Leanne Smith (born May 28, 1987) is a World Cup alpine ski racer from the United States, and specializes in the speed events. Early life Born in North Conway, New Hampshire, Smith attended A. Crosby Kennett High School. She spent her skiing time on the local mountain, Cranmore, where the founder of the first skiing school in the United States, Hannes Schneider, arrived from Austria. Following Cranmore, she trained with the Mount Washington Valley Ski Team, coached by Kurt Simard. Smith graduated from high school in 2005, and then attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham and raced for the Wildcats in 2006. Marie Marchand-Arvier (born 8 April 1985) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from France. Born in Laxou, she won a silver medal in the super-G at the 2009 World Championships. She finished fifth in the combined, and sixth in the downhill. Marchand-Arvier competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where her best result was 15th in the downhill. At the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, she finished 7th in the downhill and tenth in the combined at Whistler Creekside. Marchand-Arvier married former biathlete Vincent Jay in June 2014. Lotte Smiseth Sejersted (born 5 March 1991) is a former Norwegian alpine skier. She won a silver medal at the 2009 Junior World Alpine Skiing Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in the downhill event. She took another two medals at the 2010 World Junior Championships: a silver in the combined and a bronze in the downhill. In 2011, she won gold in the downhill at the Junior World Alpine Skiing Championships in Crans Montana. She made her World Cup debut in October 2009 in Sölden, but was disqualified. Elisabeth Görgl (born 20 February 1981) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Austria. Born in Bruck an der Mur, Styria, Görgl made her World Cup debut in March 2000 and has reached World Cup podiums in all five alpine disciplines, with multiple victories in giant slalom, Super-G, and downhill. Dominique Gisin (; born 4 June 1985) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist from Switzerland. She is the older sister of alpine ski racers Marc and Michelle Gisin. Andrea Fischbacher (born 14 October 1985) is a retired alpine ski racer from Austria. Career Born in Schwarzach im Pongau, Salzburg, Fischbacher now lives in Eben im Pongau.
