FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2007
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2007 were the 39th FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, held 2–18 February in Åre, Sweden. Åre previously hosted the world championships in 1954, and often hosts late season World Cup events. The FIS awarded the 2007 event in 2002; other finalists were Lillehammer, Norway, and Val-d'Isère, France, which was later selected to host the 2009 championships. These were the first world championships to use the "super-combined" format (one run each of downhill and slalom) for the combined event. First run on the World Cup circuit in 2005 at Wengen, the "super-combi" format (SC) made its debut at the Winter Olympics in 2010. The traditional combined format (K) consists of one downhill run and ''two'' slalom runs. Daniela Merighetti
Daniela Merighetti (born 5 July 1981) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Italy. Born in Brescia, Lombardy, she competed in the World Cup, three Winter Olympics, and five World Championships. In the 2010 Winter Olympics, Merighetti competed in the women's downhill, combined and super-G, but failed to finish. In the 2014 Winter Olympics, she competed in the women's downhill, where she came 4th, and super-G, where she failed to finish. She did not start in the combined. She won her first World Cup race in 2012 at age 30, in the downhill at Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy on 14 January. Petra Robnik (born 16 October 1984 in Blejska Dobrava, Jesenice, SR Slovenia, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian alpine skier. A member of SK Jesenice, she competes in all disciplines. Robnik represented Slovenia at the 2006 Winter Olympics. She was placed 25th in the downhill, 21st in the combined and 29th in the Super-G. Her World Cup was debut in 2004 in slalom in Maribor. Elena Fanchini (30 April 1985 – 8 February 2023) was an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Val Camonica, she focused on the speed events of downhill and super-G. Her younger sisters Nadia and Sabrina also raced on the Italian team. Biography Fanchini won two World Cup races in downhill 9 years apart and won a silver medal at the 2005 world championships. She represented Italy at three Winter Olympics and six World Championships. Illness and death On 12 January 2018, Fanchini announced that she would not compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeongchang in order to undergo cancer treatment.
